As we are all aware, the game is far from a finished success in beta terms as of this day. Yet in an effort to scale away from all the well-needed, hot discussion and criticism present on the forums today I would like to digress into a more fun aspect of the games inevitable future: Public Relations and Advertisement.
In general I'm curious as to both what forms of advertisement and as well as what content would be critical to showcase.
One I've had rolling around in my head for a while would probably be something for TV or the like:
Involves the relationship of both Eve and Dust (completely justifying the advertisement of both games). The goal would be to show just how interconnected (future) they are while poking a little fun at both audiences. - Show pretty average guys, doing everyday things. (example: lawyer riding the rail into work, accountant adjusting finances in cubicle, College Student studying...etc.) I imagine it to be somewhat professional and the like. - Gradually show everyone in the middle of conducting business noticing small alerts (ie. text message, email, IM, PS Vita Dust app, etc.) and taking a moment away to focus on the details of imminent threats on their alliances and corporations. - Discrete retreat or responses made. Heightened tension (major power blocs just went to war, trust betrayed). - Things reflecting the real life tension (ie. news report on global affairs/ economy...fading into Eve Player watching major disruptions in Eve Markets or Intergalactic Politik.) - Each member in RL works his way with increasing need to act and be apart of this Universe in New Eden. Highlight some of the major events that can and do happen in Eve and the dream of Dust 514's interaction in these circumstances. -**End** Not entirely sure how to end this piece best. I've thought of either keeping it brutal and destructive or possibly leaving with a slight punchline of some kind...or rather a small bit for gamers to understand that it's just as much lol's as it is combat.
I'd love to here some commentary as well as further ideas. Feel free to most your own or tear mine apart |

Brutal Domination wrote:I had been thinking along those lines also.....
(scene opens - bright sunny day middle of the barracks) (two modern day infantry soldiers learning that their being volunteered for some new weapons testing )
one says to the other...
" hey how hard could it be to test fire some new weapons and drive a few vehicles"
(scene changes to -) (cut-scene of Dust 514 mercs in battle)
soldiers dropping like rocks over & over again... vehicles dropping off of hills at full throttle, gunner in the back at full fire. this is followed quickly by an explosion of the vehicle - then as the smoke clears you see a rail-gun turret. slowly rotating up and away.
(after a few more such scenes in rapid succession)
(Scene change) cemetery. slow rain falling. you hear taps in the background.soldiers in funeral dress standing around the caskets. camera slowly rotates in and down in reverse of the turret up and away. reveals two caskets waiting to be lowered, their are picture frames of the same soldiers on top of the caskets.)
( camera slowly moves up to show the same soldiers standing there one says to the other-)
"You know, I just can't seem to get over this part" then both soldiers turn and walk away.
as the cameras pulls up and back, you notice more soldiers standing around ready to lower the caskets. then as the camera passes over their faces, you see that it is the same two soldiers. as the scene fades you notice more soldiers and caskets in a row -each set of caskets is a new set of clones)
alternate ending
(the two soldiers walk to join the ranks of marching soldiers passing and each soldier turns and salutes. as they turn you see that each soldier is the twin to the one beside him)
Actually I like this one a lot too! If we kept it in game characters rather than RL you could make this a really fantastic feel, much darker, giving Dust 514 an endless war feel. Take something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IklqPx3unjs (which was about the closest thing to make me ever want to play Halo beyond the first).
Possibly keep that dark attitude, (Caldari Military, Realities of living in space, whatever) and then like you said show the protagonist figure brutally murdered in combat only to find an activated clone of himself staring back into his cold dead eyes, putting his helmet on and continuing the fight. :D |

Chankk Saotome wrote:Being logi-support, would like seeing this gameplay cheered. Something that really supports the teamplay based aspects. Starting with one guy running in the background of a major firefight not shooting a thing, as combat escalates he calls out targets possibly discovered via area scan, around his intended location which assault teams rush through to clear as he moves forward with resupply. As the troopers spread and lay cover he throws down a drop uplink and more troopers spawn to join the fight. While they all press forward he backs off to hack a cannon which fires a barrage that cripples an MCC. As the MCC falls in the background he continues to press forward to revive and drag off a fallen teammate. The fight never ends.
I'm aware that anyone can do this but as I honestly stay out of the firefight only to support I'd like to see some more love.
Will be interesting to see how they handle in-game ads as well.
My only hope in that department is that it isn't suddenly like Battlefield 2142 (the only decent FPS for forever until MAG which was quickly ruined and dumbed down. Putting high hopes on DUST 514 now) where suddenly one day in the post-apocalyptic future there are 10story billboards for Ghost Rider the movie starting Nicholas Cage!
Ha ha ha he! I loved that game so much. :)
And I agree, actually if you wanted to fuse the two above together with this you could have the guy activating a pod of clones as he is bleeding out...followed by death and his clone noticing himself in a flash as he steps out. If we had another support I'd probably show either a medic-style or Engineer-Style Logi working to keep a group together with countless gadgets and toys. Damn, I love this keep it going! |
