Alright. We've all been wowed and in some cases we may have even drooled or stared a little too long to ever be considered "healthy" by any means. With that said I am writting this out (my opinions and thoughts) in an attempt to both relish the moment of how utterly aswome this game is, and at the same voice my concerns in a non official capacity -- as in this is the wrong section. However I want to sart out with the basics. This build is utterly awsome, but utterly annoying, glitchy, poppy and downright controller smashing frustrating. Anyone who has played and taken the time to notice the wrong in the build and bad, and dare I say ugly will instantly know what I am talking of. Before I do that though let me start with a nice pallet clenser of some awsome.
This is utterly awsome! A number of us have probably already seen the "discovery" clip before for EVE, but when it was put forth into Dust514 the meaning and ancient sentient life we now control now took on a whole new role and purpose. It gives players a glance into why we live, fight, bleed and die for money, honor, greed, power or whatever humanistic and Earthly confines we desire. The clip following it up even helps the player grasp our role in an ever expanding universe and just how much we control our own destinies. It really is a nice touch that many games never touch on. You need not a campaign when you have an intro that spectacular. It's not even necessary. It's just that awsome. Words fail on just how awsome it makes the game feel, and just how empowering it is psychologically. It makes you want to play the game.
With that out of the way I'd like to touch on a number of in-game issues. Which I will list and then talk about -- hopefully I will not max out my posting first. Ha! Kidding folks. Maybe. I apologise if people take offence for my harshness. I won't list or talk about all of them. I'm still finding issues out in this game.
- Lag/Latency:
- Strafe speed:
- Gun game mechanics and aiming:
- Animation glitches, and hiccups:
- Looping (I will explain.):
- Invisible walls -- The terrain and you!:
Now as some of you are realizing I listed only a small portion. I was trying my best to condence the problems into broader categories, and not max out the characters available. To the point -- first off the lag and latency. I want to start that I grant it's the first day of the new build and we are bound to have what I call "amusement park" issues. The beginning of today did not even start out well for that matter with delays, and issues immedietly off the bat in sprinting to get the game servers functioning properly. However this far into the games development and we are still experiencing this much lag? I find this to be concerning. Which is putting it mildly. I experience rubber banding (remember MAG anyone?) and even at one point where my character was glicthing in and out of walls as I was popping from place to place in a random fashion. It was horrific to say the least and ultimately got me skewered. Something I just wanted to point out. Now I will give benefit of the doubt and chalk today upto server bearing load stress due to the servers having to deal patches and uploads while continueing the game itself. This should still be taken seriously though, and should be a concern come release. Now for the rest of the list and continueing with the strafing. I never thought I would have to complain about the strafing, or bunny hopping, but when the strafe speed is so diplorable that you need to bunny hop (which still does not work) that is what I call an issue. It needs to be sped up and allowed more flexability. Especially if it takes my character a year to reload his AR (assault rifle) which is my next point. Aiming and other gun game mechanics. I get it ourselves, our soldiers/clones are fresh out of the unknown. Entities fresh to the universe and ready to be molded into bloodlusting killers. However even so I expect my soldier to perform the basic well enough to pass basic training. As it stands? If I do not let the game (down to the mili-second) reload my rifle then I have to restart it all over again. Expending precious time the games does not offer. It's tedious, frusrating and annoying. The skills should be bonuses more or less. Not actual life lessons. If that is the case someone teach my clone how to walk because the tard cannot function properly. Even with the aim assist [off] (without KB&M) aiming just feels sluggish, off, and slow. Not remarkable given it's a controller, but compared to other games? It feels like I am aiming again with the Nintendo64 controller using C-pad buttons. It's that bad. Fix it!
The rest of the list is well self explainatory. The looping is weird though. I've noticed it occurs when you are rubber banding. You're character will start to repeat itself even without you moving them. I've also noticed the game looping outside of battles too though. Which is frustrating. My game saved itself two hundred times while I was in my skill sheet, and I was launched in & out of instant battle a dozen times watching my character fade in and remateralize infront of me. Funny if not annoying.
I'm not trying to sound like a jerk. I'm not, and I do not like talking ill of a game, but sometimes you have to speak up on what is wrong. I'll get to posting the issues in the proper category, but I wanted to post my thoughts and opinions beforehand. With that said I want to talk more about the better points of this build which are more visible. Please note though my writings are incomplete and basic. I'll be writing a second post while this is up for read. Please post your comments and thoughts too. Good or bad about the game. |

Well unfortunetly the characters were maxed. Took ten minutes of editing to get it to allow my post to past. Need to clear a hundred characters. Lame. Anyway as I was pointing out I wanted to talk more about the positives then just the wrongs and fallings (subjective or otherwise) of this build. It really is a fantastic build. Pretty to look at too. Though I sort of miss that pastel build we had. Atleast it felt pastel for a while. Almost like Borderlands and cell shading. Not a bad concept or aproach. The game now looks fantastic nonetheless too though. The character models are gorgeous. Especially when standing still. Though I feel there is a bit too much gloss and bloom for my taste. A little more matte (spelling?) hurt anyone. I just wish the character animations themselves in motion were as smooth, but that can be fixed with hot fixes and real time patching.
Some of the finner points I'd like to take the time and glorify are the smaller things I suppose. Beyond mere character models -- fems models aside. Overall I felt the game has taken a huge leap foward if not stumbling to regain balance. The skill points are balanced thus far, ISK acquisition is good and does not let you feel too confined, but again that is more subjective. Personally when you are already seeing advanced (tech level four) weaponry and tanks hit the battlefield you have a problem. Still the game for better or worse is moving foward and feels a lot more like a complete game. Which I assume is what we all can agree on. Hopefully. Even with the hiccups, and "amusement park" hangups. The store looks fantastic, the maps are plentiful and varied. Ambush has supply depots now which is a step forward in that regard, but still a mode I dislike.
However I will nit-pick. Oh yes.. Dreadful I know. I'm just such a jerk. I want to say that I feel the 'Scout' has been kicked in the groin. Straight to the tender spot infact. It feels utterly useless, unresponsive even. Especially now with the strafe speeds having taken a dive for the worst. Maybe it was just me. However it felt helpless to me when I was playing as a 'Scout' this build. Took me two matches to realize I was going to be shock trooper using the all-purpose 'Assault' class dropsuit. Saw major improvement in my ability to play this build. Minus the problems afore mentioned. I'm not all too sure how I feel about the militia gear being BPC, or non BPO (Blueprint Originals) though, or for the matter the AUR pricing? Also CCP is advertising (atleast on my end) the 'Valor Scout' dropsuit, but it says not in-store. Like a final punch to the gut and slap to my face. Hilarious if not insulting. I just hope they bring them back immedietly. That and release the 'Crusader' and 'Operator' class variants.
I have not been able to call in an orbital strike, or be in the CoC (Chain of Command) this build yet, but I have to say the orbital strikes are just freakin' awsome. Also it seems for the most part whomever is the squad leader, or commander has more fluid control over the frago system. Atleast it seems to be functioning properly. Actually had a few people use it, and it made me happy. Even though we as a team were losing. Ha-ha. It was still a great thing of beauty. Atleast to me. However this brings me to some of the cooler touches. Like making the nova knife an actual weapon to be held such as in Counter Strike, KILLZONE (campaign anyway) and even Warhawk. Really feels good to see that happen, and the weapon butt smashing is pretty fun. Not glorified as it was in KILLZONE, but nonetheless neat to execute. Even had someone kill me using it. Neat.
Oh and for the record I'd like to hear from anyone if they have seen the War Room this build? I saw it in the video, but as of yet I have not been in it this build. It's disturbing me. Infact instant battle disturbs me. I dislike matchmaking. To say the least. Mm! However that reminds me to bring this up -- did anyone else notice the voicing? I and few others actually had brought that up. Glad to see and know that CCP took the time to voice a lot of the game. Actually helps to remind, and warn people of what is actively happening. Since map awarness is like a super power on the battlefield. Ha-ha!
Lastly in the opening video -- did anyone notice on the 'Scout' that there was character customization? Infact it was on his helmet in the form of black and white checkers. I hope I was not the only one to spot this. I spotted it twice infact, and I still see character customization in the clip. Anyone else whom has seen this let me know your thoughts.
Overall though? I'd say I give this build a solid three and half stars out of five. Four once the lag and popping stops. A lot of improvement still to be had, but overall an improvement in most regards. Good job CCP. Just continue to listen, and fix the smaller things. I'm impressed to say the least. Hopefully you all are not too upset by my harshness. Anyway long winded speeches, and rants.. Over. |

So the basic shooting mechanics have not been altered then? Is it still that awful camera zoom when you aim down the sights? Do the weapons sound/feel powerful now? |

I haven't actually gotten any of these issues. The only thing that's bothered me so far is I seem to have developed the ability to move through certain walls, such as the ones on the null cannons. |

Some if not all of the weapon sounds have been improved. The sniper rifle, assault rifle, and especially the HMG have improved drastically. Notice though that these are more or less one faction side though as far as weapons are concerned. I'm sure they'll sound different from one culture to the next. Still they do sound better. As for aiming with a controller? It's off, and feels rugged, and even stiff. Board stiff infact. It just needs to be smoothed out. It's hard to properly word it, but I am sure some people feel differently about it. It can be subjective.
The phasing has happened to me, but it happens more when I am rubber banding. It's annoying and I wish not these problems on anyone. Infact I hope they are temporary and only subjectived to a few individuals rather then it being a mass majority sort of issue. |

I've only experienced some bad frame rate drops and one instance where the game completely lagged and my bullets wouldn't hit; it fixed itself, though. Other than the not being able to join a game bug, I love this build. The gunplay is no longer about jumping up and down and spraying; using cover is actually useful, and the hit detection is pretty much spot on. Outstanding job CCP, outstanding job.
And the new stealth modules and the Nova Knives are BEYOND awesome!!! |

Oh I am not denying or trying to take away from the hit detection. It has been making improvements for a while now, and actually feels good. The heavy has a prescence again too as the HMG feels like a deathslinging monster. I'm glad fewer people are having issues unlike I am, but nonetheless they are issues to be weary of. This build is awsome, and I agree. Just needs some TLC and some buffing to smooth it out. |

Ha-ha.. Made me chuckle. I remember those, but this was a lot worse then that ever was. Besides I get more wall clipping from a Bethesda title these days then any other game. |

I feel like the feel of the weapons has improved a lot. The animations, sensitivity, hit detection... Its not perfect, but its a LOT better.
In fact, cover is very important now, there needs to be more tbh! So little to hide with! |

Mm. I agree, but I also disagree though; I feel the strafe speed should be re-increased. It's too slow now I might add. I'm not talking about making it into a blitkrieg, or making it too cheesey. Just enough. |
