Charging a knife. That is odd.
For all the dev effort that went into a chargable knife, I'd sure like to hear how this mechanic came to pass. |

If you are going to put it in a weapon slot, you should control it with the weapon attack button. Especially if you have to charge it.
edit: Or you could leave it as the crappy R3 button and allow throwing of a fully charge knife with R2. :) |

Dear diary, tried using a melee weapon, but it turns out everyone else is using guns! Will continue to test more by running around while people shoot me in the face to win the affection of my one true love, CCP CEO Hilmar P+¬tursson. I still think that there will be a few people that get their personal kicks by ninja knifing. Apparently there are a few of those sickos within the dev team, enough to make an avenue for that to happen. These won't be high kill count people, they will often quietly sneak into an objective, take it, silently kill a red defender (as a previous poster did). I have not played FPS games before this, but I have watched others quite a bit. Nothing gives more wood than a knife kill, in gaming ..stuff. Looking at the new skill tree and module additions, stealth knife hunting has a future. Cloaks, my friend. Cloaks. I maintained a 2.4 K/D in Blacklight Retribution using a cloak and a Machete. Well, that and a machine pistol with an extended barrel and magazine so that I could drop cloak, pour an entire magazine into my target(s), cloak up again, and run away. I'm normally about average in FPSes, but being invisible gives me a bit of an unfair edge. |

There is my 5 notes about nova knifes
1) Dont know how knifes working, i mean it can penetrate shield or armor or just doing about 200 dmg/ per charge overall ? cause with 200 dmg , and max skill you coudnt kill anything better then militia stuff on 1 charge, more charge are so difficult when target moving 2) hand to hand skill now dont upgrade knife dmg ? What about myofibril ? Just bonus melee dmg, but is still knifes melee ? or sideram handheld weapon- - which is relate to optimal skills which is funny 3) cannot use charge knife in sprint is annoying, cause you cannot improve your base ms (by kinetic modules, you can improve only sprint speed), and most of assault and logis dropsuit are slower than scout only by 0.5ms, they can easly go back and shoot you down 4) knife attack animation looks like dual attack, but really dont know if dmg is aplied 2 times 5) it can be some info about dmg you doing include your skills (i can see only base dmg with weapons in dropsuit fitting window) |

DUST Fiend wrote:So I decided to dump all my starter SP into the new nova knifes....bad idea >_< Visually they're very cool since you dual wield them, the problem is that you have to charge them. When charging the nova knife, you can't sprint or jump without breaking the charge. This means you have to first get directly on top of them, charge, and strike, all the while hoping that they don't simply backpedal away from you, as you take continuous fire from them. Also since they're their own weapon now, it's much harder to switch from gun to knife in the heat of combat.
As is, nova knifes are very disappointing. I'll do some more testing tonight, but as is, they've left a very bad taste in my mouth. Any one else try them yet?
