What do I do? No seriously I haven't been able to launch dust even after a full reset on everything on the system.
Now any game I try to run crashes on start up. : ( Should I just pay the 100$ to get it repaired? There is no way to know what really caused it :/ Now I have to wait until after my friend is out of school to play : ( |

did your full reset include hdd formatting? Edit: did you try the ps3 checkdisk thingy?
thing is, the PS3 wouldnt even start if your HDD is faulty... |

karma is a B huh crazy space?
anyway, i'll still try to be of assistance. first, if its just your hdd then its cheaper to go buy a new one and replace it yourself rather than to pay and send to sony.
second, do any other games play? if so, then its not your ps3 but most likely just dust itself, delete and reinstall
if your ps3 is just turning itself off after you turn it on and it flashes either yellow or red light then your SOL, call sony
and you can always try this, https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=257720#post257720 |

The longer I don't use it the longer it survives. It boots up untill you try to launch a game , no games work, maybe I should try again... |

I cannot begin to explain how wrong that statement is.
Anyways, you need to do a FULL FORMAT of your hard disk. It is the constant crashes that have damaged it, most likely permanently. However, you should always try this before splashing out more cash for a new hard disk.
Back up all necessary data, go to system settings and then format utility. Select full format and be prepared to wait. It will take 36 hours to format a 640GB hard disk.
After this process is complete, give your PS3 some rest and then begin restoring your data. If your problem still exists, you will need to purchase a new hard disk to resolve it. |

Because you cannot explain it? :)
Pull your HDD and turn on your PS3. See how far you can boot up. Part of OS is on HDD
Edit: we dont even know what he did so far (delete game, checkdisk utility, hdd wipe etc..) |

There is a big difference between the hard disk being faulty, and removing it from the system.. |

Incorrect again. Data can be corrupted due to a hard disk fault...

Ok thankfully as all I had was dust installed this option only took 30 minutes. At least from the hold down the button system menu.
then I did what you said and following it up with the utility reset, and then I even did the whatever a PS3 system restore is.
Now I'm waiting for the dust game to finish reinstalling. One issue I got was old school nes glitch looking lines all over my screen, but only if I waited too long on the"Hold down the button Black system menu" So that was crazy, worried that meant it was a GPU issue... or some kind of combination? It only crashes once games start to run usually....
Right now it's stable enough to download and patch the game, thanks for your help, lets hope I get in and play without a crash. |

Did you have to reinstall the OS from external storage? |
