In Eve Online, players who have highly-trained characters in their accounts can sell their characters legitimately for ISK to other players who are looking for already-trained characters and have the ISK to back it up. The selling price for a character is dependent on how many skillpoints that character has, what is its specialty and whether there is a demand for them.
Usually players in Eve do this when they have nothing else to do with their character that have already been fully trained in professions they no longer get involved in but want to start a new character with a sufficient amount of ISK (capital) rather than just start over with pocket change. Let's say that I started out as a combat player and played many years to the point where my character has maxed out skills for every ship from a frigate to a Titan but then later on I decide that combat is no longer my cup of tea and decide to go for industry. So I sell the character to other players who have boat loads of ISK but don't want to wait through all the years of skill grinding to get a feasible combat character. Me (the seller) and him (the buyer) would make a transaction through the Character Bazaar. I sell him the character, he pays me ISK.
Just so you know, this is technically not pay to win because the character has to first exist and then be properly trained in the first place which takes months or years on the part of the original owner (the player who created the character). CCP doesn't create the character. Also, as a note, there are players out there who would be more than willing to just either keep the character in question without selling and train from the beginning on a profession they never devoted time to before (like I did when I moved from mining to manufacturing to wholesale). On some occasions, biomassing is an option often taken by players who no longer like the game and prefer not to give away anything else but what they had in their wallet and hangar before they simply quit. Even if a transaction is made through the Character Bazaar, there is no telling if the new owner would ever decide to biomass later on.
Anyways, would this be practical in Dust 514 later on such as in a 2015 expansion? I say 2015 because I figure it would take that long to see any characters that have fully maxed out skills in certain professions. |
