So I haven't played as long as some of you out there, I've only been here since mid-way through the E3 build, but I only just now realized Dust's biggest flaw, it's too time intensive. Back when I started playing, Dust was the ONLY game I was playing. I had gotten bored of all my other games so Dust was the only game I played, whenever I played my PS3, which is to say a lot. When that was the only game I was playing, it was good, I was able to skill up quickly, and come to the amount of SP other people had. BUT when the new Borderlands came out, I had to divide my time up evenly, which is when I realized this game takes way too much attention to keep up with other players, and even with the amount of attention I used to give it, I STILL couldn't keep up the uber hardcore players out there. Taking a lot of time to skill up isn't necessarily a bad thing, but having SP gives a LARGE advantage to people, making people that don't use it all the time lag way behind and get r*ped by people that play often. Say what you will about CoD, but you can look at it to see an example of what I mean. I CAN spend lots of time playing CoD, building up to pro perks, etc. But no matter how much time I spend on it, I will never receive a crushingly massive advantage over my enemies, on the contrary, if I play Dust non-stop compared to a casual gamer, I can have prototype equipment, maxed out survival skills like mechanics, shield operation/proficiency, and the lot, and slaughter anyone that doesn't spend the amount of time I do on Dust without batting an eyelash. Maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but what I'm saying is playing the game often reduces the need for ACTUAL skill, not to be confused with skill points. Let me give a different example: Let's say I am the best FPS player in the world, no matter what game you talk about, if it is an FPS then I am at the top of the leaderboards. Now let's say mercenary X is a run of the mill overall average player in all FPS's. However, mercenary X spends every waking hour of his life playing Dust, and has therefore obtained 500k SP. I, on the other hand, as a professional FPS gamer, have less time to spend on Dust, so therefore I have 5k SP. Mercenary X and I meet in a match, I am decked out in a tier I assault suit, a standard level assault rifle, and milita modules. Mercenary X is equipped with a vK.0 assault dropsuit, duvolle assault rifle, lots of high tier shield and armor modules, you get what I'm saying. Even with all my REAL skill at playing all FPS's, merc X's skill POINTS make him a walking death dealer, despite being a completely average joe, and defeats me 4/5 times we meet on the battlefield. Am I rambling? Alright fine, I'll just TLDR.
TL;DR- In DUST, Skill points>Real skill, which I consider to be bad. Give me all the hate you want, but you can't deny this is true. Oh, and when I say "real skill" I mean things like using cover, working in a team, keeping the enemy guessing, blah blah blah, not to be confused with strafing, thukker grenades, and what seems to pass as real skill in Dust. |

What I meant was that is was TOO time intensive+skill points give too large an advantage. Time intensive is fine, just those two added together I have a problem with. |

It doesn't take that long to get main skills maxed, so this only hold true in short term. A two month casual and two month constant player will have a large gap in effectiveness. Same two at one year will will have a larger gap in sp total, but smaller in battle difference since the higher sp char will have skills in many areas that can't be used at once. So, game needs a long term view, not as long as EvE, but more then other shooter/mmo. |

Hopefully these new changes to SP gain in Codex will be a step in the right direction towards lowering that gap. |

Haven't you ever used an objective or hackable structure for cover while reloading? Or followed an ally into combat so that you would be able to support them? Or seen an ally engaged with an enemy and circled around behind them to assist with the kill? Or noticed a sniper picking off teammates & used cover to approach without being sniped & kill him from behind? Or snuck up to an HAV & lodged 3 av grenades & a swarm burst into it without getting caught? Dropped uplinks & nanohives in strategic locations? Dodged & weaved to avoid enemy fire?
When skill & manuvering are equal between opponents, the one with the advantage will win -- be it a skill point advantage, equipment advantage, fitting advantage, or strategy advantage... The only bonuses the passives from skills do are make it so that your mistakes have a lesser impact on your gameplay.
If you make no mistakes then you can be fresh, all militia gear, no invested points & still win....but a frontal attack on a superior opponent is always a mistake. Reset one of your alt accounts & drop in just militia. You'll probably get owned a bit, but you'll still rack some kills. |

If I understood patch notes, new sp cap per week is 465,696sp(466696), this is EvE's max under perfect conditions. I could hit this limit in 2 days of after work playing or single day off. |

So what that means is that they need to tone back just how many points you get for everything. That way it stretches out how long it takes you to reach that amount of SP, and it can be structured around the 7 day diminishing returns. |
