And I will bump again. This WILL kill the game for the hardcore FPS console players. Especially if we are going to be up against Keyboard Mouse players.
I was going to start a new thread for this, but instead to keep the boards clean I'll post the rest of my thoughts here.
Fist let me disclaim that I have combed the forums and seen several threads touching on the points I will try to make and suggest here, mostly ones about mkb vs DS3 balance. None of them fully hit the below points. Second disclaimer is that I am a COD player, which is a statement that usually met with hostility for some odd reason. However, I would like to use the control mechanics of that game to point out a things that I like about it and think Dust can use to improve on.
I buy a COD game a year, plus map packs. I assume this is the market CCP is trying to get into. If you want those funds to go into your war-chest instead, the below items are fundamental to a Console FPS and need to be addressed.
-First and foremost is spin/rotation speed with the DS3.
I've read that several people complain that the rotation speed for mkb is to fast. I wish I had this problem. The speed for the controller is 2 to 3 times slower than I'd like. I have it up at 100% and even with a scout class with speed modules, the spin is way to slow. For comparison, in COD, I have my controls set 7 which is 2 below the fastest (4 above default). Not to brag, just to give reference to how well this works for me, I have a 2.23 K/D and 28.3% overall accuracy as a run & gun AR player. I've read and heard that a real clone in a drop suit would not be able to turn that fast, but I think of it more of how fast I as a clone should be able to turn my head. An example of where this hurts is the inability to come to the end of a corridor with the options to go left or right and not being able to quickly 'look' both ways. Another example is when running in a given direction, the amount of time it takes to look left or right to check surroundings then continuing to run. Another argument I've read for gimping the rotation speed is that it gives an advantage to DS3 over MKB. I'm ok with this. Mouse has an inherent precision aim advantage, Controllers have an inherent move advantage. IMO that is balance that promotes different skills to hone. Gimping one to compensate the other will only make both mad. I say give them both their full potential.
-The next big thing I notice is the ADS movement is to fast in comparison, as if the two are backwards.
This is an issue I can overcome, but I would prefer faster movement out of ADS and slower 'precision' movement while in ADS. There should also be a noticeable difference in ADS move speed depending on weapon type (SMG faster than AR) this may already be the case, but it is hard to tell being locked into the default scopes. That brings up another request that has nothing to do with controls. Please, Please give me iron site options! Or at least the same red dot that is on the SMG.
-The last thing is sniper scope mechanics.
I only have cod to compare this to so let me first explain the mechanics there, and disclaim by stating that I am NOT a 'quick scoper' There are three position increasing stability going from standing, to crouching, to prone. Each allows for further increase stability by pressing L3 'holding Breath' but the amount of time you can do this is limited (cant hold your breath for ever). What does not happen that does in dust is a reset of the stability when doing any type of Left Stick movement. Again, the BIG advantage that controller users have over mkb to offset mkb aim precision is precision movement. To be more clear, with a keyboard you are either moving or not, with the stick, you have varying speed depending on how much you move the stick. This allows for multi axis precision that is removed by the sway reset.
Now, I'm not saying that a scoped sniper should be able to strafe at full speed and remain stable, but there should be a break point that allows me to move left, right, forwards, backwards, slowly that does not reset my sway. Having to crouch to stabilize is also annoying. Not saying that I should be as stable standing as crouching, but there should be some level of achievable stability while standing. The 'holding breath' L3 would accomplish this.
These sniping changes are by far not as important to me as rotation speed and ADS tweaks. I'm ok with the philosophy that a sniper should have to hide in a mountain top and stay off the battle field. I'm not trying to suggest changes that would bring 'quick scoping' to Dust, but the current mechanics have no happy medium. |
