Would this game be better as a third-person shooter? Maybe something with a high camera fidelity like some action adventure games or more over the shoulder like tactical 3rd person shooters.
Any thoughts? |

Fivetimes Infinity wrote:Third person is okay I guess if it's a cover-based shooter and you'd otherwise be looking at jack **** because you're constantly behind waist-high objects.
Third person also works well for games with a lot of melee combat, as first person can get disorienting for that.
So, no, it wouldn't be a good fit for Dust in my opinion. It'd make aiming harder and there'd be essentially no payoff aside from getting to look at your characters bum all game.
At least someone made reasonable points |

Mm. This far along though into the games development stages and turning it into a third person shooter would be seriously costly to the developer and publisher alike. Not that it is a bad idea -- we'll never know -- however it is safe to say that as it stands it's best to leave it as a first person shooter. For better or worse. Now maybe at a later time they'll be able to work in something like variation or options in which will allow the player (us) to play some of Dust514 in third person rather then soley first person. Nonetheless though turning the entire game into a third person would just be too costly.
Not a bad thought though. I certainly have a soft spot for most third person games -- Warhawk, SOCOM -- for examples from the PlayStation family. I'd mention Starhawk, but that game upsets me.
Hm. Still it is not a bad idea of what could have been. Props to you for the suggestion.
I've thought about it since june but i never posted it |

Fiasco Llana wrote:For the MMO side of things this would make sense. But it would also give a tactical advantage to people who liked playing socom, you could see around corners when a first person perspective player can't. The only way to do it would be a "corner drone" You can switch it to the left or right side, and it would hover over your shoulder.
You could also use it as a scout to look ahead of where you want to go VIA command wheel. Something like double tap the weapon wheel to give orders.
This game does remind me a lot of star wars battlefront 1.
Old people and their memories. It's a bit closer to elite squadron |

Xiree wrote:Nope, third-person mode is a weak idea.
I've seen numerous posts about this already... It flakey, and lame idea. I hope they remove all the third person views... From vehicles and add some type of rear-view mirror side mirrors(like drones use).
It requires people to be more skillful... I like third person views, but they make the game incredibly easy, because you get a greater view. It requires less coherence, because you can see all around. First person requires you to be more perceptive.
If they would not had third person in tanks... No one would have used tanks... Just like in battlefield 3 until people figured out how to switch.
I understand why you want it though, because the game is so hard for you and you want it easier... But games are about acquiring skill and if its too easy, it becomes too kiddy.
I know you an yr lil pals like being sneaky, but if you and everyone else is in third person.. Then yr lil ability to sneak becomes pretty useless.
Yes i have a decent amount of war points and a kd over double because this game is to hard for me
Just cause yoy don't like a highly unlikely idea doesn't give you permission to troll it. |

I'd be alright if I could slide ... I loved Mirror's Edge... It never got much hype, because not many people were that good at doing park-our/ scaling in first person. Its an acquired skill of... Thinking out what comes next. An some people are just slow and need third person.
I like third person games... Just sometimes... Just too easy.
It loses it's cinematic quality in fpses as you can't see what your character is doing |

Mirrors Edge felt more like "I' was doing everything, where as games like Uncharted feel more like a story. The difference in PoV can make a big difference on the feel of a game. Either way you get a cinema effect, but in third person you're not missing most of it |

Vincam Velmoriar wrote:I loved MGO (2- I guess- MGS4). The gameplay is obviously miles apart, but the sneaking aspect of that game and cqc made good use of the third person view. And you still had AR's and SMG's and all that stuff. The angle didn't bother me, and you had the option to switch to 1st person while you were aiming. That was a fun game... It did add a bit -f challenge to have to cycle views to aim properly |
