Jimbeezy,
You can find that same "generic" ego from almost any gamer and any game. It's not just from MAG players. I'll agree though that these players have a horribly obese ego that underlines some huge issues in which they should seek help for. I could probably list games I'm a veteran of or to for a good long, long while. Does not make me the master of all games though. Personally I do not have the will, time or funds to expend so much time into a single game just to say that I am the best at it.
Anyway MAG a was a horribly fun albeit problem laiden game which consumed enough hours of my life for me to look back fondly enough where looking at it nows me weep. Sony and Zipper interactive both burned that game into the ground and took a long extended (crossed streams) **** on it's ashes before trying to make a third person Call of Duty title which they dubbed SOCOM4 apptly ruining the series forever and more so then Slant-Six Games ever did. Infact I think I remember hearing Slant-Six laughing aloud. Imagine that. Could MAG have been utterly ten times more awsome? Oh, yes indeed! Too bad the lack of proper support from both developer and publisher combined with horribly timed and gimmicky DLC crippled the game. The stagnant community and constant whine about SVER this and SVER that only helped to bloat an already rotting carcass. Nothing more; nothing less.
May ye' rest in peace MAG. I'll remember the good times. |

GM Hercules wrote:So, I have a theory and is that you can find good players everywhere! some players spend lot of time playing the different video games or just one video game. But the important is not really know who is the best or the worst, probably the best is to find nice people willing to teach others and willing to have fun, because in the end of the day, any video game is for have fun with friends.
In the other hand I'll appreciate if we refer to other players with respect!
Cheers!
The problem though, GM Hercules, is that like with anything as soon as you invite a broader audience which in this case refers to the competitive nature of both (we) humans, and that of the nature of the online multiplayer itself with adrenaline inducing games. It tends to attract and bring out the worst in people. Am I immune to this? Oh by the laws of nature, no. Genetic memory can be such a horrible and ugly thing. I can be very volitile myself when I get in the moment. Nonetheless though it attracts the largest megalomaniacs, egotistical, godcomplex, racist, ect, ect.. Now do they make up the majority? By far, no. Infact they are subset of a minority. Unfortunetly as with everything in the age of information the way in which we communicate has allowed this subset minority to thrive. Much like EVE's Goonfleet these same people are much more organized and determined then ever. If not we would not have cyber terrorism with the likes of 'Anonymous'. It's a gruesome trajedy to say the least. That the majority of players will always be over shadowed the worst of us.
Like the old saying -- "One rotten apple can ruin the whole bushle." -- the same applied to the way in which we as humans perceive things. From communities to games themselves. Again not immune myself. Just words for thought I suppose, but the truth is that as soon as you offer the tools without proper moderation, arbitration, and a watchful eye you could very quickly lose the healthy aspect of any community or the game itself. I've personally seen what it can do to many games.
Hm. I suppose that is all I have to say really. I could ramble on for hours to be sure, but no one ever listens. I suppose my last words to this is for everyone is to be mindful and watchful. This is what happens in a world albeit virtual where everyone and everything is sleight of hand, and anonymity reigns. Like a dark abysmal alley, it calls forth to the worst in humans and attracts them. Like vermin an infestation and vile cancer it takes hold, and consumes. |
