I'm kinda hoping a forum staffer could answer these, but if a fellow player has the answers, I'd welcome answers from them too. In advance, I'd like to apologize if these were already asked in another topic. I can't really shuffle through so many threads at this forum to find it, and it would probably be faster to just ask again. Anyway...
1. I only discovered the original Eve Online PC game when Dust 514 was announced. I just read of on a certain scandal that took place involving Eve Online. I read too that Eve Online has a virtual economy that is very similar to the real-world global economy (geez, people take games WAY too seriously...). Will Dust 514 have this same economic system that Eve Online on the PC has, where goods can be sold to other players for in-game currency (ISK's)? Will there be a stock market system that Dust 514 players can participate in, obviously at our own risk?
2. When the final game is released, how will obtaining the final game be handled (i.e. is the copy of the final game going to be free to download, or will we have to pay for the actual game, sans subscription fee of course, since there will be no fee)?
Thanks in advance. |

1. CCP just stated in their IRC chat:
Quote:[CCP]Hellmar: like with EVE our desire is you build a truly player driven experience but what taken decades years for EVE will also take time for dust, we have learned a lot but most importantly we have learned to be careful on this front and measure our progress as we go along [CCP]Praetorian: We want the economy to eventually move towards being player driven, but this will be an iterative process. We can't really say to what extent and when this will be. [CCP]Jian: of course, there so much we can do along these lines with the EVE/DUST connection, and we want to take full advantage of it. like everything else, we're going to do it in steps
2. The game - from my understanding - will be free to download and install, and free to play after that. |

To the best of my knowledge (I am not a definitive source) the answers to your questions are as follows.
Yes EVE and Dust will have the same style of economy, in fact it won't be "the same type" it will be the very same economy. I'm not aware of a stock market per se, tho some player Corps allow you to buy shares so in theory that could (does?) work the same way but in practice it's not really quite the same (most players are more inclined to retain control of their corporate shares when compared with their real world counterparts).
When the game is released it will be free to download and play from the PSN, the only cash involved being whatever micro transactions you decide to participate in (AUR, Merc Pack, etc.)
Cheers, Cross
ps ~ are you talking about the banking scandal in EVE? Regardless for those who are just discovering New Eden let me just say that Trust is more valuable in New Eden than anything else. It can be a cold and unforgiving universe out there and you don't want to be caught alone with no back up, it doesn't end well. |

Thank you both for the timely responses.
Yep, that's the scandal I read about. Pretty interesting stuff. I was in total shock when I read about it. I didn't know a game like Eve Online could have shady stuff like that happening.
EDIT: Not that I think Eve Online is bad or completely corrupt, mind you. I actually think it shows me that Dust 514 could be nearly as big as Eve Online is. |

We all hope so.
CCP is not corrupt. There have been fallacies/scandals in the past, and there may be in the future. As a company, these things have been handled and no reason to think that they won't continue to be.

Economy in EVE is (almost) entirely player driven in that everything in the market has to be made by players and then shipped to appropriate stations to be sold.
Only way to get to actual ISK in to the economy is by selling stuff to NPC traders, mission running (PvE) or by shooting (NPC) pirates. Hence you could say that economy is entirely player driven even that freedom it does have limits for obvious reasons. In DUST all of our stuff will be NPC made and seeded in the beginning and depending on how DUST will be received by general public economy will be moved slowly moved towards player driven economy.
Currently biggest problem with EVE and DUST is simply with the pricing where an EVE players can easily have billions of ISK in their wallets and DUSTers are lucky to have million if that, this would obviously cause inflation with magnitude of that of Zimbabwe if the market would be player driven from the start.
Shares in EVE
Quote: Claiming CEO
A shareholder inside a corporation that holds more than 5% of the shares, can force a vote to take over CEOship of the corporation.
Recovering Shares
There is no way to force another player to return shares to a corporation, so be careful who you give shares to.
Hint: As a CEO, you should take all Shares from your corporation wallet and place them into your personal wallet, so that any corporation members issued director rights can't take the shares out of the wallet and usurp you as CEO.
