Despite frustrations with the nature of a beta, there are occasions that inspire me to persevere because of cool ass moments like the one that just happened to me...
Second match of the evening for me, standing in the lobby and I notice this game is stacked with very good players on both sides. In other words, I am the gazelle among the lions.
As the game of ambush starts I overhear tiny voices emitting from the oft forgotten headset beside me. Jump on comms and STB-Deadpool is there. He's cool and helpful on comms as well as super effective in a firefight. I try to keep up but find that repeatedly testing the functionality of my uplinks seems how the game is going. At one point we found ourselves hunting Enigma and overall it was a fun match for me. +40k sp, we won, I think, but it was a close match. I went 0:7. My KD is around .46
Next game is ambush on plateaus and I notice Deadpool and a few others from the last game as I spawn in. But they are on the red side. The game goes pretty fast and I do pretty good ( rezzing a few guys, repping, and for whatever reason, I am connecting w/ the mass driver...but our team is getting demolished). Just as the score is down to like 20+:04, I am backing up this sniper at A. He gets shot while lining up a shot but I am right there to pull him back.
Second shot takes him down and just as I'm looking for an exit, another CASREP pops up on the HUD. And it is right around A's building corner where we all used to be slaughtered. (we should give that spot a name)
He's down on the slope just under the pipes and my HUD is clear of enemies. So outcomes hero Logistic guy ( I gotta keep him under control). Just and I'm about to pluck him back and keep the hopeless fight alive for a few more seconds...he departs.
And around the corner, above me and my mass driver, steps Deadpool and his Duvolle.
He's already got me pegged and my shields evaporate while I am leaping up and back, switching from the needle to the Cyclone. Just as my feet are about to hit the ground my shot is lined up and I launch a round. It may have splashed him because I am still standing.
But now he is lifting his muzzle and stepping back...and like a drowning man reaching for a line, I believe he's recognized me and is sparing my life ( hah! Stupid, he's sparing your suit!)
And just then, Enigma steps around the opposite side and blows me away. Game over.
So cool. +32k, k:d 5:7.
This makes me want to fight on. |
