i know imma be ragged on but thinking bout bow and arrows makes me think of axes and swords..it worked in star words, and cod has perks to help people who knife so why not have a sword or something as a sidearm or main weapon for close qtrs combat where you cant see because your too busy doing the dance of death or it gets fast lol..just a idea |

I'm seriously questioning if you are trolling. The spelling, the grammar, refencing CoD as a reason to have a feature. This would work way better: Improvised Minmatar blow torch, or "heat cutter". http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx12/KAGEHOSHI-/minmatarheatcutter001_zps9ded6a33.jpg Its kind of like a lightsaber, and kind of like a flamethrower.
Posted about it before. For some reason I can't link the tread. It says HTML is no allowed. I'll just bump it. EDIT: finally got it to work https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=37642&find=unread |

Nah I like the idea, bayonettes might be a better slightly more reasonable idea, but the implementation of solid realistic warfare close range melee weapons of some sort seems realistic to me.
Call it what you want, be creative, make something up, I'm not saying it has to be a lightsaber or a sword or even a knife or the nova knife we have now, I'm just saying close range melee weapons would be a good idea and add to play-styles.
Hell go Jack Kevorkian on their ass and carry around a satchel of lethal nerve injectors that work like our nanite injectors, just opposite. Or allow for plasma cutters that operate like our repair tools but instead deal massive damage to vehicles, turrets, and players at point blank range by slicing through their armor. Create some sort electrical or plasma weapon that stuns and drains health, or incapacitates or if we want to go the lightsaber route cuts strait through armor.
Point is its not really a bad idea, it just should require a LOT of skill points to use for its high damage potential, and cost a reasonable amount of CPU and PG. |

Erm. Can we have laser GUNS first. I'm not a huge fan of the sword&shield style combat which often comes with extreme close combat gear, but I don't see why CCP wouldn't be able to support this.
But laser guns first... |

the knife is fine the way it is i believe. it can be upgraded to a semi formidable weapon. plus with a knife kill you feel like you actually accomplished something because it takes finesse to work it. this isn't space mahreens with 200 ton meat men bashing each other with ridiculous weapons. i kind of like the science in this science fiction, thank you. |

I like the idea of a larger/cooler melee weapon; Mostly because I cannot hit kitten-all with my knife (I keep running through people instead of bumping into them and then knifing..)
Is my experience that when playing properly (i.e. not pretending to be Rambo), I tend to run out of ammo. I can surprise other players by bum-rushing them while they are reloading, so it is a valid weapon, just not in my incapable hands.

This +1
Also I remember another game where the reppers were rigged to blind and damage an enemy, so every now and then our whole squad would run around and rep a few poor blinded souls to death - very fun, it i like nerd tea bagging and even more insulting. |

bayonettes haven't been used by modern forces for a long time. they are a waste of material and manufacturing space. i find melee very unrealistic especially in a futuristic setting. (even though i am specing into knife)
a un-repair tool is something i would like to see though. |

The Only way that Swords really work in Sci-Fi settings is if they require finesse to use. And even then, the extreme difficulty of making them effective would be difficult. I could see them used more like the blades they guy uses in V for Vendetta crossed with the Sword arm things from Deus Ex: HR. In-effective in actual combat, but when overcoming an unsuspecting guard while infiltrating a point they're lethal .However, they should require high levels on dropsuit command, knife skills, and the scout dropsuit, as the only effective way to use them would be while being quick and dextrous. I imagine sword combat in this game as simply being more like a glorified version of the melee animations from say AC or Deus Ex: HR. Effective against 1-2 targets, but leaving you open and vulnerable to attack if any more are present.
