My heavy dropsuit progression tree looks like this: Skinweave ~> Type II Advanced.
There is no incentive to move up to the more advanced suits.
My two cents is that what should change as we go up the suit tiers is damage resists, with varying shield/armor resists by race. |

Why have Proto heavy suits if no one sees any reason to use them in their current state?
Something needs to be done to increase the desire to run a proto heavy. The obvious solution is more slots and CPU
Or higher HP or auto armor repair allowing the actual use of the low slots for anything other than armor repair.
We really need to balance out the heavy better, I see proto assault everywhere and even a few logi and scout but not one single proto heavy.
I like the idea of built-in armor repair, HowDidThatTaste. It fits the heavy perfectly. With a couple of reppers and no stacking penalty from the built-in repping the higher tier suits might become attractive. The nice thing about armor repping is that it's only an advantage if you play smart.
Your idea is more interesting than that though - if CCP designs a couple more lowslot modules it would be great for adding some variety to the heavy suit. A built-in nanohive lowslot module would be welcome, ofc, but i'm sure there are better ideas than that out there.
With a few interesting and useful modules, extra lowslots could be the motivation for peeps to invest the skillpoints in the upper tier dropsuits. |

Heavies are broken, expect them to be deleted at launch - there's just no real way to balance out defense and offense between casual and hardcore players for heavies. anything CCP does will always seem to tip the scale in hardcores favor, and there's no real way to balance a fight between assault and heavy. We're either like every other suit and have multiple choices or we're the only suit that can only do one of two things. Defense and AV. But if that's our only roles - hardly anyone will choose anything but assaults.
Your argument is a good one Sota, but if heavies go something important will be lost.
I believe that balance is not the be-all and end-all that it is in other FPSs. And we've yet to see how CCP will address the hardcore/casual issue, but with security status, flexible contracts, matchmaking filters and gamemodes they've got a lot of tools at their disposal.
As an assault i NEED to have that Oh ****! experience of unexpectedly meeting a heavy and running for cover like a little girl. On a regular basis.
Heavies are one of the things that make DUST DUST. CCP is getting close to a sweet spot with the current tank/dps/cost balance on the lower tier suits. Now they need to tweak the top end and let us playtest that. |
