A flying vehicle with multiple people inside packing swarm launchers would be incredibly powerful against vehicles. I mean, being able to engage tanks with up to 4 swarm launchers at once, in such a way that all the rockets hit and the tank can't run... it'd be bad for tanks, anyway. Meanwhile, the guys shooting with assault rifles and stuff would never kill anyone and waste all their ammo in the process of trying to hit fast moving targets from a fast moving vehicle at long range.
Anyway, so what it's a transport, one small turret each side is hardly a big deal. You don't see these vehicles as amazingly powerful things that dominate battlefields. There's nothing wrong with transport vehicles having door guns. And it strikes me as far better than the alternative you described. |

Six guys firing swarm launchers from a dropship is far more powerful that two guys shooting small missile turrets. I don't think they want the dropships to be a serious, powerful combat vehicle. Eventually there'll be other, actual combat air vehicles. By that time, hopefully the maps will be large enough that the dropship will have a valuable role as a transport and won't need stuff like six guys firing mass drivers and swarm launchers from it in order to be worthwhile. |

Right now there are two struttings on each side and could be just allowed to shoot out between them. So not six people can shoot at the same target but two or max three. You also have to lock on and this could be very hard if you are in a moving dropship.
Whether there are angles involved or not, it's really aside from the real issue. The real issue is that dropships are transport aircraft, and having six guys firing the right kind of guns from the side of them would be much more powerful than one small turret per side. Does CCP want dropships to be powerful in this sense? Would they prefer that combat aircraft be added to shore up the gaps in this sense? Perhaps. Either way, there isn't a right answer here, it's simply CCP's prerogative. |
