CEO of Sony Puts Release date on Dust 514?
Sony's CEO, Jack Tretton, analyzes the Vita statistics and goes over the benefits for players to get the vita. While talking about the vita, he uses Dust 514 as an example for a free to play game. While explaining what Dust is, he says that Dust is "coming out" next month(Starts at 2:20). Is this mere speculation or does Jack Tretton have the inside track on the eminent release of SONY's and CCP's free to play FPSMMO?

Maybe it is the same thing.... Remember, EVE is still in beta and it has been a decade. |

Yeah I think CCP said somewhere that they are calling the open beta "release" and the actual "launch" is going to have all the 2013 DLC goodies. |

Because CCP does thing different than other companys. They build the produckt to a certain point and then put it out to players to play and test it out. Then they go back to it and iterate on it to make it better. And add some new features to it and release that.
And so on.
Even if DUST were to be 'released/launched' on summer 2013 EVEN then it IS NOT COMPLETE. It never will be.
This is a complete paradigm shift to players in consoles and to quite extensively also to PC players. |

They have a build they've been working on since before the last build came out in August. Two months is a long time to make big, big changes to stuff like performance, hit detection, and so on. |

Not a matter of being complete it's down to it working correct and performance neither of which we have at the moment, as for the new build I've been here for 4 and each time the main problems are still there. The big big changes never seem complete.
Well ccp are going to have to change the we do it differently approach this is console territory not the pc and console players like complete working games with the minimum of issues and bugs the it's eve mentality will not get them verry far in this market.
I hope I'm wrong because I want this game to be a winner but at the moment I dont see it, it's just a below average fps |

Sounds like how Eve Online is generally treated. Eve has been on permanent beta since its launch back in 2003. You should see how Eve was back then compared to now. That's nine years of iterations, bug fixes, expansions, emergent game play, etc. Even if DUST 514 were to be fully built and with all the bells and whistles, Odiain is right when he says that it is still not complete. |

Group sizes of more than 4.......or do you think it is to the server when you lose connection to the host, it is to the host of your group and not the server.
Invalid suits. There are so many steps to take to avoid this that to list them all would be futile....the big one is getting salvage that you don't have any skill into, followed by using skill points on skills that effect all your suits... like mechanics, shields, armor.
Leadership controls that are downright archiac.
How PILOT and Leadership Suits play into the games dynamics. Laser rifles.
The supposed E-wars effect on the game..... this is a huge one.... tankers especially have been using this one as defense for over powered nature for months, while I have little sympathy for them, I would hate for the E-war to be too one sided for either AV or Vehicles.
Do you really think they have nailed down Corp Battles with the limited testing they did with that.
Then you get the random freezes.
How long has it taken them to get this point, 4 -5 months....almost all of these issues require a month or more of testing each, and that is only if there are no problems....when was the last time you shut off the game after playing for hours without any problems?
All of these add up to: if they release the game with any of these or combinations of these issues, you will not get anyone to play for long and they won't stick around to put money into the game other than maybe a giftcard from some relative around the holidays. |

The issue here is that too many devs these days release incomplete online games which are far too buggy or unbalanced, and it really hurts the game and community. Most PS3 online games are usually fairly playable about 6 months after release, but the point leading up to those 6 months is typically pretty bad.
If they released in 2013 the game would be FAR more complete than if they were to release it next month. And as I pointed out above, 6 extra months is usually all it takes for a incomplete, buggy and unbalanced release-beta to be pretty near complete (at least complete enough to not horribly affect the gameplay negatively).
Not sure what they have in the next build, but I doubt it will be considered "release worthy" by any means. Maybe in 2-3 more builds, but certainly not the next one! I fear this will severely hurt the game if people play the beta in it's form now and think it is the final release version.
It has been proven over and over with other PS3 games, that releasing too early can absolutely KILL a game.

Wow ... I'm so jealous ... you people must have played the next build before the rest of us ! Speaking for those of us that haven't seen the next build we have NO IDEA what has been fixed or stabilised or balanced, for all we know the next build IS release worthy.
Anybody here remember the vast difference between last build and this, or are you all that blinkered by the problems this build has had ?
They've known about the freezes and disconnects and invalid fittings for a good while now, I'm not saying they will have fixed everything or that in fixing stuff they won't have introduced other bugs, but this is what beta testing is for. If you're not up to the task, quit complaining and go play a pre-release demo instead. |

Well chances are the Devs are working with a build significantly more advanced they the one we are using in Beta. I still think we'll see final release coinciding with the EVE update in December but if we get a more complete version of the game prior to that then I will not be disappointed. They way I look at it, this game will never be "finished". CCP is committed to the long term development of the title and that means consistent updates spanning years. It's only ever get better. And as free to play, no PlayStation shooter fan ever has anything to lose :) |

Anybody who has been though a decent amount of betas knows the routine. I guarantee you the next build will NOT be release worthy. Sure, it might be a huge improvement, but that doesn't make it release worthy. There is still going to be enough bugs, lag, disconnects, freezes, and other random issues to keep it from being truly release material.
Those who caution the games premature release are wise, because we know from experience how this works. Sadly those of us who do understand these things, are a dieing breed.

Dust is not Sony, is CCP. Sony is neither the publisher nor the developer. If Dust is this poor is not Sony's fault since they don't develop it. Sony developed FPS & games are all better made compared to Dust. FF XIV was a failure because Square Enix made a poor VG, same here. Sony has the exclusivity but not the control on the development and the contents of the game.
Sony can tell Naughty Dog what to, what direction to take, and they would have to do ti because they are owend by Sony. CCP is an independent developer outside Sony's control.
CCP has all the merits and the blames as well. |

If they going to call open beta the release. That don't mean game reviewers will call it that. They will review it as finish product. So they might as well just call it open beta imo. |

Hehehe, if they keep improving like they have been build to build, I'm not worried at all. And once its released if the improvements and add ons are as good as Eve's always have been, then were in for a hell of a treat

It's true, BF3 released complete... with a major patch 6 MONTHS after release.. COD still has the same "hosts connexion" problems since MW1 (I stoped it at MW2, just before MAG release on January 2009)
Well, since when do we have complete working games with minimum of issues on console ?
With DUST, as we TESTED it since June, we KNEW that we'll be experiencing a lots of issues... The thing that we know with CCP is that they can fix issues the day after being report. Well, ok they're not doing it with all issues. It can take more times. But nevere 6 months, that was just incredible from DICE and EA....

If this is true then god help CCP imo.
Gamers are a pretty fickle bunch, more so console gamers imo. If they see a crap / unfinished product, they'll likely just ditch it and call it out as crap. They'll also tell their friends not to bother as [insert AAA FPS title here] is better.
With all the best will in the world a single build is not going to fix this game. There's systems and sub systems planned for this game that simply do not exist yet and are crucial before any balancing can be done, let alone bug fixing.
There's also many game breaking bugs and issues. We all know them and if you don't then the'yre pretty hardcore issues. I've never had my PS3 hard lock before beta'ing this game and it still does it at least twice a day. Invalid fittings. Game crashes causing items to be lost. Game crashes wiping out diminishing returns on SP.
These are but a few of them and they're all game breaking to the point where if they exist at release, the general gaming public just wont tolerate it. Free or not free. |
