Alright, this may be a little ridiculous to make a thread about, but i'll request it to be removed after the mystery is solved.
So, i've been playing for a month and always referred to the enemy indicators as being orange when directing my squad because that's what it appears to be on my TV. Nobody ever questioned it. Tonight, a player said "Orange? they're red, man" . A couple other people agreed. It was suggested my TV colors need adjustment. On my screen, all enemy indicators are orange including minimap symbols and player tags. My armor when low is clearly red as well as enemy shield/armor bars so my set is certainly displaying red as proper red.
I just watched a TGS video of Dust gameplay and the colors on my PC showed exactly as on my TV; enemies are orange, not red.
So, can someone chime in here and tell me, is the enemy orange or red for you?
Television is a Samsung LCD 1080P HDTV. I find it very hard to believe my colors are off as i adjusted it thoroughly when i purchased it and my pc can't be "off" too.
Am i suddenly color blind? Losing my mind? What gives?

Grit Breather wrote:Addendum. I found a Dust screenshot and the colours do match what I'm seeing during gameplay. http://www.thereticule.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/20213DUST514_Infantry11.jpgTo anyone not recognizing the map, you're just noob. It's Crater Lake from 2 builds ago. That's the map everyone's pining over. Back on topic though... I analysed the RGB values of the red indicators on that screenshot and while they are red, the RGB values seem to be borderline orange. Perhaps you're just hypersensitive to colours. Instead of blaming your eyes for faults, you may need to be thankful for them. Are you in any way involved with graphic design?
In that image i see the top two letter A and B symbols as red. I see the D symbol as more orange.
Hypersensitivity to colors? I never considered that. This is extremely surprising. I have never really been made aware i may possibly perceive colors differently than others.
I find it extremely interesting that you ask if i am involved with graphics design. Graphic design is indeed a major hobby of mine. I spend a lot of time looking at colors to design logos and graphics and create vinyl decals. I also do a fair amount of photo editing.
Now that this discussion is taking place, in many situations i have often had to correct people on the color of things but i never payed it any attention. If they say something is black, i may tell them no, it's very dark blue. If they say something is gray, again, i may tell them it actually is a little blue. If they say it's black, i may tell them it's actually very dark brown. They then argue it and i tell them they are color blind. LOL. Because obviously it can't be me. hah. It's never been a red/orange thing as far as i can recall though.
My mind is truly blown. Do i have a dysfunction, or rare ability?? lol
I'll have to look into this further. Thanks for the info everyone. Now to find out if i'm more like Mr. Magoo or Superman. |

I've just returned from taking all of the color blindness tests in Kelshaw's link. (thanks for that link, by the way). Survey says,i passed with flying...well...colors. I am absolutely not color blind. I even scored in the small percentile all the way to the left when you compare your results with that of other people. Apparently I am actually far less color blind than the average person. Learn something new everyday.
I also analyzed the Dust 514 TGS video that appears the same as my TV to me, and sure enough, the colors leaned slightly toward orange.
So, you folks keep right on killing your red dots, I'll keep right on killing my orange dots. I will do my best to humor you poor, handicapable people and refer to them as red. Just don't correct me if I call them orange, for it is all of you that are color blind, not me! haha.
But really, thanks for the help guys. I appreciate people taking it seriously.
.... and helping me to become aware of this new super power. Time to go organize my closet by color with a level of perfection few normal humans can attain! :/
Addtionally: I think because there are actual true red graphics on the screen such as the health bar, it makes me able to clearly and easily distinguish the orange ones from the true red. I mean, it doesn't even look orangey red, it looks blatantly orange compared to the true red. If there were no red graphics at all i may not have a basis to accurately gauge the color and then may see it as red. Or maybe i'd still see orange. I don't really know. Eh, whatever. Problem solved. Very interesting though. |

Hawk of Battle wrote:I see orange too, except in that image posted above where it's definately red. So you're not alone dude. And before anyone asks, no, I'm not colour blind either, I'm an electrician and one of the first things I had to do was pass a colour blindness test.
I guess we're just more highly evolved than these savages eh System?
See, to me i can see which are red and which are orange in that image. It's so crazy.
LMAO @ that last part there and to that i say "Yes, i've always know it and now i have some proof". Inferior beings.

carl von oppenheimer wrote:There are two stages of "red" in this game very close with bright red and dimmer red when signal is weak which you seem to interpret as orange. Had you played a sniper you would notice the difference immediately between the two colours (bright red often runs from behind the corner with a shotgun).
How ever no two persons can actually see colours equally the same so what is orange to others is red to someone else.
I totally understand what you're saying because other people see it like you do, but to me it's not a matter of brightness or dimness (is that a word?) at all. I also see no distinction relating to distance. Everything is orange. Just orange. No matter how far or close. There is no red of any brightness, other than the health bars. If you took true red and made it bright or dark i would still look at it and say "Red". If you take this current color they are using and made it bright or dark, i would still say "Orange".
The problem is because they've used a red that is literally on the edge of the orange spectrum and my eyes are apparently sensitive enough to perceive it, it is quite literally orange. It's night and day compared to red. I wish i could explain or provide an example but i don't think it's even possible since you can't see it through my eyes.
I'm sure people see slight differences in colors since no two people are the same, and others are color blind and see a different color, but we're talking two different colors here and i am proven to be not the slightest bit color blind.
I also think it's slightly unfair that you guys are all able to see the distance of an indicator by its color/brightness whereas to me there is no visible distinction. Kind of a disadvantage not being able to tell if an arrow on my HUD is right around the corner or 50 yards away. (though i don't even know it that's how it works for you guys because I don't get to see it)
It's really hard to explain. This is going to drive me crazy. |

Kelshaw Xu wrote:But I already know I'm color blind. Blue and green are nearly the same color for me.
Oh. Well, sorry to hear that. This whole thing is totally tripping me out. It's like i am color blind, even though it isn't actually me, but everyone else. In which case, if it's everyone else is almost the same, and i am in the minority, then effectively i am indeed color blind in that respect because i see colors differently than others.
I guess i shouldn't be complaining if you're seeing green objectives and friendlies running around. That's way worse. But the fact that you are aware of it probably makes it immediately easier to make sense of it. For me it's the first time the situation has ever occurred and it's incredibly strange. Thanks CCP, for ruining my life!!! lmao.
Meh, whatever. Red... orange.... eff it. DOesn't really matter. Thought it would be nice if CCP could push their blue and green sliders to the left a smidge to take out that orange so i don't lose my mind.

I see it at 675... But i just searched for additional wavelength charts and oddly enough, depending on the chart the border between red/orange falls anywhere between 630 and 700....soooo for some reason that test isn't accurate enough for the situation. Very strange that a wavelength chart can vary.
Glad to see a mix of people that see the orange as well as those that see it as red. It's not a big deal if it's officially one or the other i just think they should make it a hue of color this is not up for debate, lol. If it's red, make it true red. If orange make it true orange. Or at least further up the scale to drawn the line more definitely. Such a weird issue to have in a video game. Everyone else complains about weapons being OP. Me? i complain of my enemies not being red enough ::facepalm:: |
