Salvaging should be a completely different event than the battle itself. From my understanding DUST battles will progress through GÇ£socketsGÇ¥ on the planet with the final socket/battle being the planetGÇÖs coveted space elevator. Previous battle sites should be open to salvage squads. Bodies and equipment from these previous battles would re-appear in these salvage sites. Then salvagers could enter the server to collect the wreckage. The kick is that not only could there be multiple squads conducting salvage operations but rogue drones would begin to converge on the battle site over time. Salvagers can fight each other, simply grab what they can in the time available or fight the ever increasing rogue drone encroachment. Each squad only has a limited number of clones in reserve and each squad cannot be more than 5-6 DUST marines. Additionally, salvage must be GÇ£collectedGÇ¥ and moved to a off-planet delivery vehicle via ground transportation (modified dropship or LAV). Something like this would make salvaging a viable career in EVE/DUST and introduce an interesting PvE/PvP mix. Are those other squads on the other side of the map going to ambush us? Did we bring an active sensor? Do we even know theyGÇÖre there? Are we going to work together against the drones or fight each other? |

Interesting idea.
Salvage is a good idea, however as in EVE should require a certain level of interaction by the player. Having to at least check corpses/wrecked vehicles would be far more immersive than the current system.
And yes, salvaging while under fire would be interesting. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. Additionally, I guess squad size would be 4 obviously. But teams/squads from the same corp/alliance could not be on opposite sides of the fight. This would ensure that a single corp/alliance cannot flood the site with salvagers. I don't know how they would implement it but I like the idea of more than two sides being able to participate. Maybe a corp/alliance only gets one squad slot per map thus making room for six different squads to be on the field at any given time. |

This is a wonderful idea and I love how it integrates the PVE element into the planet conquering mechanic. I think that if your corp controls a section of a planet you should have larger access to clone reserves though. Perhaps since you control the planet you should be able to call in turrets. This would make it more challenging to perform pirate like salvage ops, though still make this possible of course. |
