I know we are supposed to get pilot and command dropsuits, and I hope they are well specialized (i.e.: side arm only).
But the missing one is the dedicated support dropsuit: side arm only (no light weapon, no grenade), more tanking ability, more modules and equipment.
So you would get the fighting dropsuits (light or heavy weapon) and the non-fighting dropsuits (side arm only).
Another option that has been mentioned also is a grenadier drop suit (side arm, three grenade slots) .
The game is supposed to be all about specialization, but as it stands, support (or logistic) is not much of a specialization: you are only slightly less effective than an assault, and carry extra stuff. |

A grenade-throwing dropsuit doesn't strike me as a very good idea. If you want to spam explosives, grab a mass driver. They blow right now because they're buggy as all hell, but once they're fixed there wouldn't be much point in a grenade suit.
And I'll also say that the game really isn't about specialization in this sense. The dropsuits are not at all things that pigeon-hole you into a role. You can snipe with a heavy suit effectively under certain circumstances, or run around with an assault rifle in a scout suit and play gunfighter. Really big restrictions like sidearm-only on non-pilot suits, or a suit which exists simply to have two extra grenade slots over an assault suit, are too specific. They'd be good for very few roles. That's a big deviation from how the game works currently.
The dropsuits do pigeon you into a role. Go out with a sniper and your role is to stay away from the hot zone and shoot in. Carry a swarm; you are only good against vehicles. And that is the whole point. Your choice of dropsuit (and fittings) when you spawn sets you into a specific role. But as it stands, there is a lot of differentiation on the weapon side, not much on the equipment side: with 0 skills in nanohives, droplinks, repair, etc I can still be a very effective logistic. I say the specialization should also be pushed to the dropsuits and equipment. In Planetside you had the cloaker (one of my favorites) who could cloak, but had no armor and only a sidearm. It was super specialized and they made a difference on the battlefield. Here you could imagine a logistic with a nanite injector, droplinks, repair and nanohive but cannot really shoot effectively (only a sidearm). He is invaluable to a squad, so they have to protect him. Sure he is useless solo, but that is the whole point of what this game is supposed to be about: teamwork. There is already a lot of solo opportunity, you don't need another (i.e.: logistic that can do it all for himself). |
