The "Problem"
So,
if you've been paying attention to all the updates being worked on for future builds, you'll know that things like hit detection and general shooter mechanics are going to (hopefully) be completely revamped and improved. That means that it will (again, hopefully) be much easier for people to kill each other... and die...
...Even more so for people sporting scout suits. Things like strafe speed, ADS sensitivity, hit detection due to latency, and others (that I can't think of at the moment) are all being tweaked and worked on. And it's these things that, I believe, are giving scout suits an "inflated" survivability rate. It sort of augments their greatest strength; their mobility.
So basically when the gun game improves, I foresee a dramatic rise in the number of dead scouts (if they continue to be used the way they are currently) because they are made of glass. A scout will drop in seconds from a militia assault rifle, even down range. Land a few head shots on a scout and they drop nearly instantly. And all this can be applied to every dropsuit type, although to a lesser degree the slower the suit is.
The Solution
If everything goes as planned and the shooting mechanics become top-shelf and everyone is dropping like flies, one thing that would be really cool and increase the survivability of certain people, would be the ability to slide. Sliding would be used while sprinting by pressing triangle (the crouch button). When you slide, you maintain top speed while at the same time, making yourself a smaller target. If used correctly, sliding would increase the survivability of those who are in the right postion.
Scouts would benefit the most from it as they are the fastest and lightest. Assault and logistics would benefit slightly less but it would still be useful. Heavy suits probably wouldn't even be able to use the ability because the amount of friction (due to large surface area and great mass) would immediately stop their pathetic top speed.
In order for this to not be abused, you can put restrictions like an accuracy penalty while sliding (or even take away the ability to shoot while sliding). Or maybe it takes a second for an Assault or Logistics suit to recover and rebalance after sliding while the scout suit can recover relatively quickly.
Overall
I think this would be a pretty sweet game mechanic to have. It's functional, badass and lets people earn virtual style points in intense cover to cover firefights. |
