This might cause an uproar of people saying I'm in love with COD. So first of all no I'm not.
I just think that the total amount of accumulated SP could have a bigger purpose than just being a number. For example it could become levels, and players could go up levels by earning more. Obviously the gaps between levels will increase to allow an easier start for those new to dust and more of a challenge to those who consider themselves the "elite". The levels could then be used to unlock extra items in store and possible gain a few AUR in the process.
just a thought guys, let me know if you's like it or not. |

So...you want the SP to not be just an arbitrary number and add another arbitrary number for that purpose? Sounds like a solid plan...
You unlock new items by spending SPs to lear new skills... |

I sort of like this and had a similar thought. It would not be a bad idea to give players something like a military rank as they procure more SP (lets not call them "levels" please). This could be used as part of determining match balancing.
I do not think getting more SP should unlock items or give any tangible reward beyond what more SP already offers a player. At most it should offer a bit of role play flair and aid in balancing matches. |

Meh, not sure i agree with your concept but I've considered something similar.
What i was thinking was a simple ranking based on the amount of SP a player has got. 1mil SP = Rank 1 2mil SP = Rank 2, etc.. Not as a way to unlock new things etc.. That rank number would just be beside their little blue or orange triangle indicator in game to make others aware how good they are. I'm on the fence about the idea though.
I think it'd be helpful to know roughly how powerful a guy is that you are about to engage. I realize it doesn't particularly make sense that you would somehow magically know how good your opponent is in a fight, but many games do it. It's just an idea to consider. I know there's a lot of guys i would run from instead of run at if i knew they're SP was double or triple mine. It'd also promote teamwork as you could recognize a major threat and make a plan to specifically take him out together. I don't know. Might be a terrible idea, but there it is. lol |

I imagine, we'll soon have some sort of "Certification" System like EvE has. After we spend our SP in any "willy nilly" way, we would likely unlock a "Certificate."
So by inspecting a player can tell you what weapons he is focused in. Can he drive a tank? Etc, etc.... |

That would be nice for sure. Hopefully that system makes it over into Dust. Still, an on screen indicator would be nice, though that concept is still flawed, i know, and would need pros and cons weighed.

Well it could have a ranking system that balances the game for people that are more new. So while higher ranks will (usually) be better than everybody else new players will come to the game and aren't thrown straight into a fight with more experienced players but players of a similar rank to theirs.
To be honest any more would be unnecessary (numeric ranks (1-100 or whatever)); it just makes it a bit more easier for new players and let the people who have out-ranked the beginner stages of the game duke it out amongst themselves, leaving skill to better define the players more accurately.
Did this make sense? I can't seem to explain things well today.
TL;DR/didn't make sense. Use a similar system: new players, mediocre players, experienced players.
Even so I'd be a little meh about this. |

There should be a separate amount of "command points" that you get by being an effective squad leader.
Every so many points allows you to rank. Every rank determines how often you are allowed to be the leader, and what kinds of bonuses your squad will get besides the basic airstrike. |

Ranking players by skills SP is just stupid You ability to kill people and help your team are not directly correlated to your SP. A good player can be VITAL to the team even with the starter logi suit and no SP. |

Your rank is dependent upon your corp, not your SP. You are rated and ranked via your performance, not some arbitrary rank as denoted by your SP. This ranking system you re suggesting has nothing to do with EVE and has no place in EVE's universe. |

Hate your idea. It has no relevance to New Eden where skills and specialization denote worth not an arbitrary number. Please don't try and make Dust like everything else |

It seems they are making the skill progression as in EVE, and that is a good thing.

No 'levels' thanks. I love EVE's skill progressions. No clicky-clicky-everywhere. It's nice that there's still MMOs out there that get you to think rather than hug you all the time. It's how Dust should be too IMO. |

Yea. I don't really see the point of this. This game is not really based on skills going up everytime you hit some landmark amount of SP and adding levels seems superfluous. This would do nothing to add depth to game play and would only add superficial barriars to people skilling into what interests them.
Stick with the current skill tree model please CCP. Avoid the "level up" syndrome that infects so many RPGs and modern shooter games. |

just a thought guys, let me know if you's like it or not.
Let me propose this scenario:
Okay, so I have X number of skill pts I'm rank three... but I've assigned all my skill points to useless skills and skill books relating nothing to my role making the effectiveness of my rank one nil. My friend is at rank two and assigned all his skills to purposefully serve his role and therefore has a better overall approach and effectiveness inside the game.
whats the point in having a number beside your name if it doesn't mean anything? Skills already unlock new items, if you have ranks unlock new ites what would they be, every item used requires a skill. No skill no item. Yay! I can obtain a super-mega-awesome assault rifle that requireA assault Rifle V! How do use it if I'm at the proper rank and have no skill points allocated towards assault rifles? Are I then bound to following a specific character class? If so why even have skill points? It would remove the game itself from the EVE universe... sounds dumb. |

I am in support of a "Certification" system like Eve, that would map out the necessary skills a player needs for a specific team function (i.e., "Field Medic" or "Anti-vehicle Support/Specicalist"). This would be something for players to be able to track their skill progression towards specific goals. |
