Some may say its only beta whatever BUT when that Beta test is actually causing physical harm TO THE SYSTEM its being played on regardless of beta or not you will lose MANY people to a game that does the following to a console system i have not had this issue with any other games only this one below are 2 pictures of the loading screen before a battle. Tv is brand new led 32" hdtv, console is less than 1 year old. when your game does this to a console and freezes like this which forces me to reset the console i then get a "your system was not shut down properly and needs to be scanned for corrupted files" its not what a console player wishes to see

Well i have not had any corrupt files as of yet however forcing to pull the plug due to your system is locked up from a game and forcing it to have to do that scan is not typical wanted behavior from a console game and can not be good for your system in general. it has also randomly at times restarted my ps3 without my permission it definitely needs to be fixed and i just got an email in regards to dust 514 so in other words you buy a ps3 it comes with beta access to a game that can cause these sorts of problems with your system...not a good selling point in my view who would want to be a console with a glitchy game to be included that.
At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Sony unveiled a sleek new PlayStation-«3, which includes DUST 514Gäó beta access and $30 worth of bonus items.
CCP is at the Tokyo Game Show as well, so stop by to try out DUST 514, while you decide between the 250GB or 500GB HDD model of this awesome new PS3 bundle.

Are you aware that due to this being a beta we are supposed to give feedback well guess what my system having issues like this is feedback DEAL WITH IT. We are supposed to help with production this game now is given to you with the purchase of a system are you aware of that? If it is going to cause damage to the console why in gods name would anyone want to purchase the console?

Do you really think a beta of this game and 30$ bonus items is going to compensate if the system is damaged due its use and promotion?
below is the ad that's supposed to help "sell" this game and the console.

LETS GET EM..... but ive been testing since early june baby..... and trust me... it's gotten alot better than it use to be Yeah, so...here's the deal. I'm sure the EULA states something along the lines that CCP is not responsible for any damage to equipment due to our agreement to help them test etc etc etc... I would suggest, if you are adverse to changing a hard drive or are not backing up your data files so as to recover from a HDD crash, then yes, I would halt testing until you are prepped for such an event. Or have 2 PS3's and don't care if one crashes or the like. It is the nature of this kind of testing. Not to get too OT, but any kind of software testing that involves devices such as android or iOS devices, all beta platforms are subject to the royal scrooge! You gotta be willing to risk it. They won't release until the system locks are resolved I hope, but they are smart guys. I think they would know better. So...get some backups going, a few extra dollars to insure your HDD (replacement value) and test hard! Just some thoughts - hope they provided some insight. BIG EDIT: I am in no way, shape, or form implying that DUST will crash HDD...I am simply helping those that may not have thought about what to do to help ensure they are covered in the event of unrecoverable failures.
"They won't release until the system locks are resolved I hope, but they are smart guys."
They have already released it as a package if you purchase the new ps3 console yes it is still beta but why on earth would you advertise a beta if this has not been resolved yet.

nah its not about the screen wigging out its about the fact the system does full lock up only solution is to pull the plug which causes the system to say "the system was not shut down properly a scan is needed to determine if there are any corrupted files" when these locks ups happen you can't even hold the power button down to shut down the system you have to unplug it right from the wall.
which can not be good for the console espeicially if its a regular bug/error
also the fact it only happens with dust no other game from my 2 stacks of games shows that it is caused infact by dust not my system as if it was the system it would happen with other games |

Yeah but are your two stacks of games all (Half) closed beta..? I've had other games lock up on me even the PS3s internet browser will from time to time although I haven't used it too much lately.
Of course there not beta i run a animal rescue don't have time to be a 100% of the time beta tester or have a way to get involved in that either.
"Just because the screen wigs out doesn't mean it's harming your system. It's more then likely just corrupt data files or bad hardware from general use not from the game."
i can play 10 hours straight on my system and not have any issues if it was corrupt data files it would be from this game wouldnt be from another i would say this for any beta if it was doing this how can it be a system that works flawlessly with 20+ other games i have and not with this one

Did not work for this lock up held power for over 1 minute only option was to unplug |

Tyas Borg wrote:I can understand people's comments if this was just a simple matter of rebooting. What the OP is describing is the hard lock up we get from time to time.
The only way to resolve this is to flick the switch at the back of the PS3. The power button doesn't respond to the reboot, it beeps and just sits there flashing forever.
If you have a slim model the error is compounded by the fact you HAVE to rip the power lead out or the plug from the wall, both of which are far from ideal solutions.
Even once one of these procedures has been completed you can't simply press the PS button on the pad to reboot the system, it requires the manual power button on the PS3 for some reason.
It's a pretty serious lockup as far as I'm concerned, nothing is worse for electronics than to be turned off mid operation. I know we signed up to this, but the OP has a very valid concern and "It's a beta" simply doesn't cut it in this case.
This isn't a game breaking bug it's a potential PS3 breaking bug. In my eyes it should be CCP's number one concern as they'll not like small claims being brought against them if this is being packaged as a complete game and bundled with the new PS3.
thankyou! finally someone that gets it :) this should be number 1 to deal with imo as well no one wants to spend 100's of dollars on a new system which includes a beta that can potentially damage the system |

i have had a few computer systems that had similar issues more so just because the system was old however by forcing it to reboot it actually damaged the hard drive by making it spin far to fast and burn out the same is happening with the ps3 hard drive by physically unplugging the system its hard on the hard drive and can cause it to burn out, sieze up, be fully corrupted, lost data, |

It doesn't follow, that's not logic or proof of anything. I know you don't want to be told you're wrong, but you're wrong. Yes the game is locking up, yes it sucks and it is not acceptable, NO it is not damaging your system. Think about this for a second. How is a static (non animated) image going to show us a lockup? That's like showing us a picture of a car in the middle of the road and asking us to try to guess what's wrong with it. Then telling us what's wrong is that because it's missing spark plugs (which we would have no way to see in the image) it cannot drive or move. We get that the game freezes, it sucks and angers you. It's not breaking your PS3. If you feel that your PS3 is in danger, then STOP PLAYING THE GAME. If you're willing to listen to reason, then here it is. As a software developer and someone familiar with the PS3's software architecture this is as plain as I can be. Freezing won't damage your PS3, but it may FORCE you to reinstall data. I guarantee you, that even if you Mr McGoo'd open your PS3, you're not only not going to know what physical damage looks like, but you're not going to find any even if you did. Freezing is unfortunately a result of an error on software part AND an normal operation on hardware that isn't detecting the error on software. Otherwise it'd just reboot itself. Detecting those errors is very difficult and can provide lots of false-positives, which results in rebooting more than is needed, so the system developers opted to let it stay on and try to self-resolve rather than automagically restart all of the time.
As mentioned i have stopped playing the game also as mentioned in several posts by me a scan for corruptible data starts after every forced reboot its not about freezing that happens all the time im used to that but to actually go all funky like that and force me to unplug from the wall it is not good for the system. i am not wrong in that sense i have built enough pc's to know a hard power down is not good for your system it can causes errors and even destroy the hard drive if done enough times.
maybe it is you who can not accept your not perfect and could be wrong sorry slugger but thems the breaks when a hard drive seizes due to situations like this it does show physical ware i however am not going to let dust do that to my hard drive so until they fix this issue i will not beta test
also it doesn't anger me in the slightest its a game its in testing phases if i was so easily angered by bugs in a game i would not have signed up to test it in the first place. Life is not perfect all games have there flaws that's just how it is no need to get angry about it as whats anger going to solve do you think me yelling at the tv when my favorite show gets cut off the air is going to resolve anything? of course it wont however bringing up something to the devs of a game that we are testing does have an effect. |

I agree it would be nice if the gm/dev would look at this post. I do not agree with Jane as i also build my own computer systems and am fully aware of what a hard power down can do to your system.
Infact my last ps3 was forced to do a hard power down while playing dragon age 2 the result was my game being locked in the blue ray drive the system being unable to be turned on and me selling it for scrap parts for 60$. power was going to the system but simply put press power all i would get is a blinking light followed by 3 beeps and no it wasn't the ylod. person that bought the system also got my game back the hdd was garbage completely fried he essentially bought it only for the blue ray drive
ps3 was also only roughly 5 weeks out of warranty:( which sucked as i couldn't get it repaired so simply bought a new one |

I enjoy being a part of the Dust community, and as someone with a background that is helpful to many people I take the time to try to help them with their issues. Unfortunately you've seen fit to debate without evidence, and debunk without proof as well as dismiss without reason. This isn't conducive to receiving help, OR learning. As such there is likely nothing I can do for you, so I won't be returning to this thread. Good luck guy.
As i mentioned ages ago i have stopped playing dust until this is issue is fully resolved i would not have been a jerk if you didn't try to make me look like a fool i simply returned the favor and your argument was that i am clearly a kid/child with no background. fact is you don't know me i also do not know anything about you nor do i care and i would assume you don't care about my lifestyle or employment history. and we could make up personas as much as we would like the view of someone on the other side of the world that does not know me has no merit. IF i had not experienced an issue similar to this which destroyed my ps3 i would not have brought this topic up. I can not get photos of my previous ps3 due to afaik it has been scrapped by the person who purchased it. my brain is fully capable of knowing what damage is when/if i were to open my ps3. you claiming i can't is as others have stated a personal attack essentially calling me a moron.
Thanks for your input and your "background" i have plenty of evidence as you put it but im not going to go to the means of posting 10-20 pics up every time a situation like this happens along with pictures or videos of me pulling the plug, the corrupted scan starting once system goes up or the fact that i have had to reinstal dust twice as it was "corrupted"

I also do have a college education from Algonquin college here in Ottawa i run my own animal rescue after i graduated from veterinarian technician. I am also a former musician from the National arts center orchesta after that career i went into real estate with primecorp commercial realty. many of these things happened while i was involved with a wonderful woman at the time however it led to a divorce. but again you shouldn't need my personal history/background and should not judge others and expect not to be judged right back safe to say just because some person types something on a computer there was a PERSON behind that post if you would insult that person in his/her face you would most likely deal with consequences for those actions lesson here is treat others how you want to be treated if you treat others and demean them to feel like dirt expect the same in return. |

some things are not about the money:) some things are for the sake of saving lives which is what i do at my rescue you assume my wife left me i left her in actual fact and yes i tried to pursue several career paths as if you are just going to work to make money well thats not very fun or enjoyable i could sit behind a desk and make cash sure. or i could save an animals life and take in an animal that was abandoned and left for dead imo there is much more value in a life then there is in cash.
i worked at a fast food joint for some time as well called tim hortons saved up money to pursue a life with animals i wasnt handed a luxary car and college education i worked for it. |

You sound qualified as a para-veterinarian (as you made the decision to not pursue to be a veterinarian physician), and I respect your degree and life's experience in lieu of a Comp Sci degree. You are right, I am wrong. Rub more flee bath solution on it. Stay mad, nothing will get resolved like that. I didn't legitimately insult you until you made the argument personal, now you're just making a fool of yourself. To address the one worthwhile thing you said, "Treat others as you wish to be treated." Reread my first posts as seen: First postSecond post (not even directed at you)Third post (clarifying what someone else said since you misunderstood it)Fourth post (still being friendly!)Fifth post (Gee, still being friendly, only I have the audacity to imply you don't have a formal computer education)All you did each time was effectively say "nuh-huh" and finally throw out unrelated anecdotal evidence about an entirely different situation. I was pretty patient, and only wanted to relate the happenings in a way you understood. Either your ego got in the way, or you have poor reading comprehension because as a result you decided that I was insulting you and went off of the deep end. I treated you the way I wanted to be treated. "Here, you are probably an educated adult who knows about something I don't, but I happen to know about this. Here is some information and some analogies to help you understand." Your response was to say repeatedly "NO I GOT IT IT"S BROKEN" then finally "YOU'RE INSULTING ME STOP IT YOU SILLY DISRESPECTFUL PERSON". I treated you how I wanted to be treated, you treated me like I had no idea what I was talking about, then like I was making up any knowledge I had. Now I'm treating you like you treated me, poorly. At least between the two of us I am backing up my argument, providing proof and logic, and best of all! I don't have to resort to repeated namecalling or mindless slander (LOL I'M DA BATMAN).
no i did not go to school for computers however i did study on my own terms and i stated several times that i build my own machines actually have been doing so for 13 years. most of my animal knowledge has been learnt from experience some things you can learn with out taking out a student loan to go to a college for. and you did insult me i have highlighted as well as underlined your insult. and i have re read what you wrote and it was rude you were treating me as though im a child ya thats right i said im the batman if your so droll and can not have a sense of humour you might as well be Ben stein from the clear eye commercials a sense of humor shows that you actually have a soul and are not some drab boring automated machine.
i never said my system was broken i said this is causing harm to my system you didn't understand this and did the "im right your wrong game" The reason i made this post is because i had a similar issue with as i said dragon age 2 which caused my playstation to die and if you do have knowledge of computers you know removing the plug and doing a hard power down can cause damage to the system which can include power surges but ya ill take your insults ill accept im an uneducated hillbilly living under a bridge and that im simply a child/kid as you stated cause your perfect and im clearly wrong my mistake your holliness ego goes both way bub your perfection shows your ego |

THIS is the post that got me upset i was being nice up until this point Your capitalizations of telling me to stop playing the game were not needed followed by your "I guarantee you, that even if you Mr McGoo'd open your PS3, you're not only not going to know what physical damage looks like, but you're not going to find any even if you did."
in other words sorry cernee your a dumb*** you wouldn't know what physical damage looks like if it smashed you in the face. i did not even respond to your 2nd post that was directed at another person i read it and left it be but this was your 3rd post. Anyways Jane darc thankyou for the conversation i did enjoy it until i felt i was getting insulted it is interesting to know your view/opinion and i do appreciate your input. I blocked your kid like friend which has a confused version of "worth/value" and i am sure you have or will be blocking me in the near future as well. I am not trying to be rude with you when i say this but it would be nice if you think outside the box and that others do have different opinions/views and that doesn't necessarily make them wrong as it would help avoid a lot of future arguments with people.
I hope your degree that i am sure you hold worth to as do i with mine helps you in life with your goals whether that is financial or just to have a job you enjoy.
This thread was simply to bring the bug/issue that had occurred to the devs/mods eyes so they can deal with it as a beta tester this is what we are essentially asked to do and is also why this thread is in the bugs section of these forums. If people report bugs and then are simply told to stop playing the game rather than it being addressed you won't have anyone testing the game.
saying "its a beta what do you expect" or "if you dont like it stop playing the game" on a bug/reporting part of the forum for the game that is being tested is useless |

That was an advisement. I think anyone would tell you, "If you feel your hardware is in danger, ditch what you suspect the cause." The Mr. McGoo comment was because you are not a Sony technician, and thus if you open it up the best you can safely do is blow dust out...and close it back up. It's all specialized hardware, unlike what you're assembling in a PC, so even if you're familiar there's more damage than good to be done. The rest of your post is just slander and putting words in my mouth or rewording my stuff with curse words to suit your points. You're overreacting, and not being rational. Good luck with your issue, but it's not related to Dust.
again im going to ask if it only happens with dust, happens regularly with dust, has been reported by other dust testers, and is a known issue with the dust devs...how is it not related to dust?
and nah i can even as just a regular joe other than clean it out remove each piece, re-apply heat sink compound (usual reason behind the YLOD issue) which ps3s are known to lack replace pieces if needed (i have spare parts) and even mod it if needed. could even upgrade the hard drive if id like. The Fat ps3's were easier to work with parts wise then the slim are. You made an assumption if i opened up the ps3 i wouldn't know what i was looking at or would even be able to notice an issue you were wrong in that assumption and yes i did get upset about it. And i did not use curse words other than stating i felt you were treating me like i was a dumb***
again sometimes you don't need to be trained or get a college education to see what is or could be wrong with the system. i learnt how to build pc's simply by taking them apart scrap pc's. Hey that shouldn't go there it made the machine smoke trial and error curiosity is a wonderful learning tool for the human race and is how many inventions came to be.

There is such a thing as dead-on-arrival computer parts/game consoles.
I would have thought that originally as well tbh however i still play my ps3 on a regular basis and this has only happened with dust none of my other games have had this issue and it was a regular thing during the time i would play unless for some reason a newer model of a ps3 is not built to handle Dust which i would find rather odd.
just doesn't make sense it can handle blurr, white knight chronicles, fallout 3, borderlands 1 and 2 and this happens with dust only

Corban Lahnder wrote:I must confirm.
You should NEVER have to unplug your ps3 and that act can damage your ps3 not the client crashing.
When you get the hard freeze follow these steps:
1. Try and hit the ps button. Yes, I know. Most of the time the freeze is the whole system but at least one time I noticed the PS still had functionality even though dust did not.
2. If the PS button doesnt function, you have id a hard freeze. Press your power button once. Do not hold it.
3. Your PS3 will beep once and your green light on the console next to the button will start flashing. Your screen will go black Wait a moment.
4. After the green light has started flashing and you have waited hold down the power button and wait. The restart time is usually 5 seconds but honsetly its varried for me.
5. Theres another beep you get red light its off. Give the ps3 a rest for a moment.
6. Power it back up and it will check for errors.
This has been the process for me every time I have had a hard freeze. I have unplugged my ps3 at least once or twice but after learning what it can do to it and finding this process I have listed a much more safe procedure I stick too it.
However I must acknowledge something. I do agree with the statement that "the hard freezes are keeping people off the servers." No one wants to trial something that wreaks havoc on there system or causes errors that make it hard freeze, physical or not. We all understand this is a beta and betas aren't perfect. But you need to set the hard freezes as a priority fix. Its giving people a very good reason not to play the beta.
Thanks very much ill try this as usually regardless of how long i hold the power button it doesn't typically turn my system off so ill give this a go next time. |
