Yeah its a lot more tricky than it used to be. It'll be nice when we can get a testing area to practice these sorts of things without risking actually losing the ship. |

Check this out. You can probably give up on being "combat ready". The days of using dropships as gunships are kind of over. |

Keep fighting the good fight! I'm right there with you buddy! I'm too used to helicopter physics and the banking controls really screw me up.
here's hoping a VR test environment will get added eh?

I like the flight controls now. Took some time and ISK to learn how, but now I can zip around with no problem and outrun swarms. It's nice not seeing so many DS's as last build. I enjoy having the ability to fly to a tower and camp it while clearing letters, LAV's, HAV's and turret installations for the ground team. Hate getting sniped in the DS turret though... that sucks. |

The better ships fly much easier too by the way.
Always let go of the controllers if the ship goes vertical or rolls this puts you close to neutral.
Its kinda hard at first because you want to over correct but that just makes it worse.

Definitely go with the dropship flightschool link, it's pretty basic and easy to follow. My dropship guy hung out out over the blue spawn area for about a week before going out under fire (except a few times when I was drunk). He's my least used character, so a week probably equates to 6-8 hrs flight time. I just started taking dropships under fire yesterday. It's really the only way to practice low level maneuvers with any amount of speed.
The better dropships do fly easier as well, fortunately I happened to loot 15 Prometheus' up to now so I'm lucky. Still have 10. It's too bad about the hardener nerf though. With a DCU, shield extender, rep, plate and EANM, I can shake off swarms especially at low levels. The forge guns though, the first shot puts me in half armor and ,if in in a bank, nearly flips me inverted. If they get a second shot, it's over. Usually its over. Their guns are usually recharged by the time I recover attitude and get pointed to cover. Fun as hell though. Can't wait for gunships. |

Just me voicing my opinion. I LOVE the new dropship controls. Please CCP, don't change them. It's like piloting a Chinook which is exactly how it should be. There are a few quirks with the thrust coming from below the ship instead of above but that just gives the vehicle personality of it's own and does not make it harder to fly. I have flow a dropship under the crane topped roof on a map. If I can do that with practice, then its easy enough to pilot as it is.
Now the current state of affairs where every dropship can be one shotted by a railgun turret needs to be changed. |

My only issue with DS is that the R stick does pitch and yaw. It shouldn't do both.
L stick should be pitch, R stick Yaw.
I would also like to see the modules activated using one of the buttons, not my flight stick. |

Right stick doesn't do pitch, it just seems that way because it controls the vertical camera. Having that colocated with yaw is still kind of annoying, of course. |

I wouldn't say they're cake, but they definitely aren't as bad as I thought they were the first time I tried flying one this build.
I need to practice more low level maneuvers, it's just so expensive!!!
On a side note, I can't wait until 1)Chaff, 2)Landing Gear, 3) armor/shield buff (hopefully) |

the three uses i seen the drop ship used for is to get snipers to their nice cozy camping spots high up on towers, parking the vehicle itself on a tower to rain missiles down on people who are actually playing the game, and three flying around so fast and attempting to fire rockets as they strafe a blob of enemies while constantly moving so they don't get hit by the 20+ kitten missiles chasing them. |

My pet peeve is even a level 1 swarm missle can take you out in 1 mag which I find extremely stupid because they're near impossible to dodge unless you move behind cover. I think swarm missiles should have a lock radius. Like once they lose the target (such as flying over them) they shouldn't be able to make an instant 90 degree turn and hit my arse.

yeah then the issue will be gun boats flying so high no one can get them but they still have the range on their missiles.
great plan for balance |

How? i don't think you understand what I said. After passing by a missile (heading toward the shooter, missiles come, I pass over them, missiles fly by me. They shouldnt be able to make an instant 90 degree turn and hit me after losing the lock like that. They should either make a slow arch back toward the ship or just keep flying in the same direction after they lose the dropship. Or the person that fires the missiles must maintain the lock on to the dropship so that the missiles know to arch back around.
It is a great plan for balance, why should one shock troop be able to take out anything on the battlefield in a game that relies heavily on teamwork?
I don't understand your gunship example, what does height have to do with anything? |

why should the power of money be sole in victory and not teamwork. i seen gun ships eat kitten missiles when they stack damage resist and after they get hit a few times they simply tilt and go to ridicules speeds across the map to wait out missiles till their shield rep resets so they get back to full.
then they rinse repeat till the match is over not contributing to anything other than making some of the enemy go into useless heavy armor that can't do anything other than keep the dropship from being a missile rain cloud for talentless kills
and to answer the question, if you limit the range of lock on the kitten rockets and you don't change the turret weapons, players will abuse the hell out of that and just keep the ship out of lock range so they can get kills |

Talentless? Dropships take more skill then tanks, thats for sure. And good, you're saying you want one shock troop to be the end all killers of vehicles. Which I think is dumb. One person shouldnt be able to take out a dropship. And I don't know who you saw playing like that, but I use my dropship for extractions mainly. Or clearing enemies out before an assault on a base.
True about the missiles. I think railguns should be the only weapon to have infinite range. Because in real life (physics wise) they would. |

if you have to keep moving they take skill, and that is only to pilot. as for shooting a turret, it's just like every other turret that moves fast. as for shock troops, yes, they should be able to wreck vehicles. that is the only thing they are good at. unless you mod them with a better pistol or a good SMG that is all they are good for. even if you mod them they are slow and rather easy to pick off for snipers and fast suits. either A you are a gun boat that is useless because you are going so fast no one can hit anything in order to stay alive, or B you are parking on a tower out of range of everything just so you can get snipers to their camping spot. with a high point kitten missile it should one shot everything because that is all it is good for because you sure as hell can't hit a dropsuit with it. If you are a skilled pilot you can avoid missiles by just going fast around the map because no matter how many points a kitten missile will pump in or even how many points a forge gun will pump in if you fly around the map in circles at insane altitude and speeds you can't be hit by anything. |

In reading the patch notes, I'm dying to see the new changes to the physics model. Chaff would be worth giving up a slot for, landings just take more practice, and the armor shield buff will hopefully come in the form of gunships (flying tanks). I'd be happy if the physics model includes reducing the radical attitude changes from being hit by anything larger than a pistol.
