There will be an industry side, however we're not at that point yet.
The following is however thoery crafting and not offical
First part of the industry for dust 514 will be software - eventually we will have to design the software or copy our nanites follow to build our gear. Doing so by use of research labs and/or using gathered information to combine and create higher level gear. Or buying critical components and software rights to make the blueprint. In the end this will be heaviest portion of the industry we can expect and it should be interesting how dust 514 is going to handle this. Either way chances are when at launch everything is going to be very expensive, once investment costs are recouped the entire thing should scale out between supply, demand, technical difficulty of procreation, skill point investments and finally location, raw materials, skills (yes you will have to train up skills to sell items) and logistics.
Either way the idea of npcs selling us our current gear is going to end one day.
2 nanites - what kind and what sorts this will be probably our version of minerals. These nanites are used to construct all the gear we use on the field. These will be what we fill our warbarges up with so they can build gear on demand. Expect some automated mining for this.
3 biomass - used in clone construction this will likely to be balanced against nanites onboard a barge. Run out of biomass no more new clones. Also expect automated mining for this. |

Well the software side has the chance of becoming active game play.
Imagine raiding a pirate lab and grabbing their blueprints or their latest software security protocols and scrapping those bits of code into making more efficient licensees? |

My rules for industry on the field,
Guns can and should be involved.
Teamwork is optimal but the effort is solo able and pug capable.
Automated versions vastly inferior to manual versions.
Manual versions where possibly made fun.
The ability to screw anyone over no matter where they are, may cost you to do so. |

DUST Fiend wrote:This directly ties into the ability to "free roam" around the planet, and I hope they strongly consider this for either release, or more likely a future expansion. DUST 514 could be the first FPS game where you literally don't have to fire a single shot if you don't want to, yet you can still fully enjoy the game.
Free Roam Likely its own expansion. |
