I currently have a YouTube page 1Winshear that posts Battlefield 3 content and other video game news. I am very enthusiastic about the potential Dust 514 offers. Never before has a developer integrated the PC and console platforms to where they can interact in one common universe, and this idea could be one of the greatest in gaming history. First I want to recommend that the word needs to be out more about this game. I stumbled upon Dust 514 via IGN and had no clue this game even existed until July this year. I am an avid Playstation gamer with my finger on the pulse of the hot topics of what FPS gamers crave. Unfortunately I am not alone, and when I discuss Dust 514 with my base, no one knows about this game.
YouTube is a powerful tool that the Dust514 team needs to get onboard with and relax its confidentiality restrictions. I am eager to post coverage and get the word out about this game because I feel it has great potential. But due to the strict confidentiality agreement, I cannot even discuss nor post any information about the content in Dust 514 publically. This is ridiculous; Dust 514 is only offered on Playstation therefore what is the treat of discussing game specifics publically? I have created over 100 Battlefield 3 videos that have generated over 1,000,000 views in 9 monthsGǪand I am just a small channel. Obviously the power of free marketing speaks for itself, and YouTube is where gamers go to get information about future games. Right now there is very limited video content only offered by select sites. If Dust is planning on competing with the big games being released this Holiday season, restrictions of the confidentiality agreement need to be lifted immediately.
In terms of gameplay this game looks good in the previews I have seen, but honestly I canGÇÖt understand this game. The market system and knowing how to configure my drop suit are beyond me and entirely too complex. Recognize that we are console players with short attention spans and want a game with a turnkey learning curve. I understand this is a free to play game that requires real money to purchase goods, but having to pay for the ability just to communicate to my team is ridiculous. I know a quick criticism this game will draw, is that it will only cater to people with money that buy all the advanced equipment. There needs to be a balance between earning and leveling up equipment, not just going out and buying it. Why not make this game like EVE and charge a monthly subscription fee that allows me to play and everything else in the game unlocked by leveling up my character like most other games? Dust 514 is already revolutionary in offering the PC and console integration; donGÇÖt alienate players by establishing a system where the player is rewarded by paying rather than playing.

NDA will be in effect until CCP wants to show the game off, right now there are to many broken or unfinished things. If the NDA was lifted tomorrow, the game would get slatted by idiot reviewers who have no idea what CCP are trying to do, or that the game isn't even close to finished yet (basic systems might be getting closer, but content? There should be so much more coming) and the end result would be the game flopping before it even launched. Although I agree that CCP could to more to build hype, I was kinda hoping Sony would help with that.
Most AUR stuff is no better than ISK stuff, or if it is comes with huge fitting costs to balance it out. regardless once the market is finished you will be able to sell AUR stuff to other players for ISK. and I believe (read: hope) that the AUR only UVT is just a stand in to test the voice coms system. (Evidence? Why else would the various versions cost the same - 1 AUR)
EDIT: My personal feeling is that while the closed beta might become an open one by winter (counts as a 'launch' of sorts) the game won't launch proper until spring/summer 2013. |
