We have been brought in on the ground floor of something that could potentially define the future of cross-platform, massive multiplayer gaming. I know people are upset about nerfed tanks, concerned about ISK Thukkers, and frustrated with some of the game mechanics. But I have also noticed that CCP is working to address most of these issues. CCP Wolfman has already commented on the Thukker grenades this evening, and his logic makes sense to me.
I'm not trying to preach to everyone, because 99% of the comments here are tremendous and helpful in terms of defining what this game will look like when it comes out. But I'm also not going to pass judgement on those who choose to boost, spam Thukkers, and exploit any other loophole/bug they can find in this game.
Our job is to break the mechanics, exploit the bugs, and find any unfair advantage we can in this game. The ISK and skillpoints will not be in our accounts on the day of release, or even after the next build. All we will have is the experience of how we have shaped this game, the pride of what we have delivered to the larger gaming community, and maybe a perk or two (permanent drop suit, weapon, etc) from CCP when it's done. That last part's wishful thinking, but one can hope.
I know I will probably get flamed for this, and I'm not trying to pass judgment on anyone or point fingers. But it sounds like most of us are looking to have this be a turning point in the future of FPS games, and a new phase in the future of gaming. CCP has shown they are watching, tweaking, and taking our actions and requests into consideration. So boost your points, get the big toys, and come gun me down. But when you're done, report any issues and/or feedback you have on the forum. That's well worth a drop suit in my book.
After all, what are a couple virtual deaths compared to years of gaming enjoyment?
Happy hunting!
Smartest post I've read in awhile, and very inspiring. Funny as it may seem, I never thought about trying to "break the mechanics", most probably because I mostly play the game to "play the game" and simply evaluate what I was given to play with. Thanks for bringing in a new perspective.
