So here is the Word from the land of the PS3 gamer: Your little game will always be a LITTLE game, with very few players. Hope they don't spend a lot of money developing it because it sin't going to retain a lot of people who try it.
The reasons are the OP and the responses. OP has a huge point, as my KD ratio is moving BACKWARDS the further up the skill tree I move. Each time I think I have a competetive fit, I try an AMBUSH map and get my ass handed to me. It's gone from bad to worse, and last night I spawned in with a heavy shock suit and armor upgrades, yet fell after being hit with ONE HMG BULLET.
OK so I tried an objective map - which BTW almost NEVER spawns me into at the beginning - I only get in when the game is halfway done. And as soon as I find a defensive position me and 3 other guys are jumped by ONE player, with shield mods so high that 4 of us shooting him and hitting him wasn't enough to take him down. ANd I am Lvl5 AR, lvl4 LW, lvl 4 Sharpshooter, yet had no ability to overcome his shields. I know, lets nerf the shields next!
You see my point - that infinite skill trees just F up the game for almost everyone who comes in on Day 2 or later. It happened in DC Universe - which they thought ppl would be playing in massive quantities and spending REAL $ on as well. Got news for ya CCP - real gamers have about 6months to spare your little offering - if it isn't FUN, or takes too much time we move on to the next offering. I am a month into this Beta and about to delete it from my system as hopelessly overcomplicated, frustratingly difficult to enjoy, and downright annoying.
To the people who think they are 'super FPS players' and criticizing legitimate concerns about this game, and especiall y attacking other players abilities: You are assuming we don't have skills, just becasue we can't devote our lives to carpal tunnel thumbs. Come play me in Rockband, I will whip your ass there and make you look silly and incapable too - I am only a Top 100 player. My point is that being mind-blowingly excellent at a shooter should not be the ONLY way a person can enjoy this game, but it is working out that way.
SO I am deleting this game soon - because it isn't any FUN! I am not enjoying the high blood pressure from finding that even in my meanest suit I am a glass target. I am not enjoying the way they limited railguns to a kilck or less of distance (so silly, railguns should have a range of MANY miles, by their very nature - which tells me PHYSICS are irrelevvant in this game) & I am not enjoying being hit by a dropship sitting on top of a skyscraper on a turretless map. I am not enjoying being spawned into a team who have no tanks and facing a team that fields 4 of them. And I definitely am not enjoying the anger, crass assumptions and simpleton insults that plague this and every other game forum.
None of these geek-boy couch potatos would speak this way to my face - I can bench press most of em. It's amazing how much more respectful people are in person. ANd I have a Real Life - I play this game about an hour or 2 a day, usually while watching Netflix on my iPad LOL. Most "casual gamers"are like me - so make a game for the masses CCP or you will be trying to recoup your investment from a small group of fanboys, psychotic teenagers with no money, and a limited pool of FPS nuts who think their stats in a game somehow turn them into a real Army Ranger or Navy SEAL
Wow, this one made me spit a perfectly good Crown and coke on my monitor. The butthurt is strong with you Grasshoppa. So is the irony when this was your next post..

I and others are giving the devs what they asked for - considered response to conditions in the game. YOU are the one filling up a forum with snide little comments trying to start a fight - Effing trolls, got no use for ya.
As for the OP, the nature of the skill tree limits the amount of skills and equipment that can be used at any time. For example, a 100m SP character in an assault suit with an AR is no more effective one on one with a 10m SP player with the same skills applied to that same suit and weapon. The biggest difference is the players RL skills with game mechanics and teamwork. Heavy on the teamwork. Ask around a little bit on what a "Rifter hero" is. The other difference is that the 100m character has more options for gear and equipment loadouts, but can still only use a fraction of total SP at any given time. I've nearly maxed out a sniper in three weeks with a job, wife, social life, and simultaneously skilling three characters. It isn't that hard to find an effective niche to start with and without spending 23/7 playing the game.
You must be doing it wrong. |
