What are some of the major corps in Eve and why do people express worry about them like they'll be as troublesome in dust as in they are in eve.
I know all i need to know of Goonswarm and I've seen the name TEST tossed around occasionally but i want to learn more of potential big players in the shaping of dust.
Any thoughts and/or info to enlighten me? |

Generally you can find most of the information you want in
http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Main_Page (Be careful some of facts are messed with by competing corps)
http://www.evenews24.com/ (Decent news site about what is happening, but also note just like real news they have opinions with the facts!)
Some corporations have functioning recruitment centers (chat rooms ventrilo/chatrooms), and most have a website with general information!
I would look into the history of Band of Brothers (BoB), and everything after that.

A lot of eve corps and alliances are filled with incredible people with amazing abilities, if you've ever found a clan in an FPS impressive imagine 500+3000 players who on their own are smart lead by people who are super multitaskers with 3 or 4 degrees from some European university and on the side hes a Russian oil baron.
I've often been intimated by the intelligence and RL experience of eve players, take goonswarms late chief diplomat he was an actual real life diplomat deployed in Libya, I believe i don't know much about him but that's what I'm assuming, if not I'm sure there are plenty of other examples. |

But with the goons, they're the or are one of the largest corps so imagine multiple times of corps with 3000 people |

they probably are one of the largest I should say alliances with 500-3000 people, im not sure if there are any groups with more then 3000 ppl if there are i'd say there isn't many, the vast majority of players in eve are in much small corps apart of big alliances or none at all.
But im just using goons as an example I by no means think you should worship the ground they walk on.
scale is more like an alliance of that size is made up of 10+ corporations with anything from 50-500 players in each corp.
Last alliance I was in had 5 corps, 1 or 2 of those corps making up 90% of the alliances population. |

So, with all of these massive megacorps, what does that mean for us just starting out? I wish I had a corp that had what I want, but I don't. Nor do I have any major connections in EvE, so I'm kinda screwed before I even start (as are many others, I'm sure) |

Just wait and see I wouldn't despair over it, you or your corp will gain connections with ppl from eve, because a vast majority of eve players aren't going to step out of their dreadnoughts and battlecruisers, they'll just pay you to do their dirty work instead, unless the scale of battles in dust is going to rise dramatically its still going to come down to platoons of good FPS players doing the work.
If it comes down to hundreds of players running in a large blob at each other and shooting 1 person at a time per some guys orders, fps players might be in trouble, but i highly doubt it. |

Scale is good. Community is better. Scale and community is unstoppable. Good to see some research happening. There are more tools available, go find them.
I keep hearing Faction Warfare will be the first major arena. Be advised that 0.0 sovholders have very little interest in the FW fight. You need to examine that community and not the big names in null.
FW tends more toward lowsec subcapital ops. Operating in smaller gangs and with a culture of their own.
Many types of communities exist in New Eden, and some smaller operators can prove more capable and dangerous than you think.
Take wormholers for example. They have a small gang culture that demands a level of responsibity found only in a small percentage of a massive nullsec fleet. They also have to manage their own logistics with shifting routes and mass limitations.
Highsec, lowsec, nullsec, wormholes, all different types of operational environments with their own practices and cultures. |

We're actually at about 6000 people i think, Our forums have over 25k people registered and that's over the whole CFC and people who play/have left etc.
We have a very large player base to call on and they often resub when we need the man power.
As for Evenews24 Avoid that site like the plague, the guys that runs it issues a lot of propoganda and has major issues with some of the larger groups in EVE so he has a habit of blowing things out of proportion to support his own agenda.
Also, you should probably look up Red alliance, the Russians.
SOLAR Fleet, they are probaby the only major group that Goonwaffe considers a threat at the moment, and by threat i mean they'd put up a fight for a few months but eventually we'd win due to superior numbers and funds.
There's -A- or Against All Authorities, Have a big mouth, play forum warrior a lot and claim to want "Good fights" and be "Elite PVP" but when Goonwaffe and Test went to say hello they hardly faught us, They stayed in their stations and spammed local chat while we took all of Delve and then gave all that space to TEST to live in.
NC. Is another and they are currently a much smaller force than SOLAR and -A- and they are at war with Goonwaffe and friends and are putting up an exceptional fight.
PL is Pandemic Legion, really good at PVP, don't care about holding space, they follow the fighting. Obviously there's other people in EVE, but those are really the major players. |

Is Red Alliance a somewhat major power? I'd really like to fight with fellow Russians, but if they aren't somewhat powerful, then I'm still at square one (not saying that's all that matters though, but it is kind of important). |

Take a look at the sovereignty map early and often. The people with big ole blobs will have cash for mercs. That is if they take to this whole extra level of planetary development.
If planetary control factors into sov they will definitely throw cash at mercs.

meh numbers in a fight arent as important as it is in EVE everyone will have to earn their DUST rep, just because Goons or TEST or w/e have a hold on EVE does not mean they will be as successful on the ground they are starting off on the same lvl as everyone else |

At the moment nobody really knows, you can play EVE solo so i expect you can do the same with Dust, you may just miss out on certain things. |

In FW yes, i believe.
When we get to null sec no, if an EVE corp wants to hire dust mercs they would want to hire a good corp who already has the man power instead of nit picking through a bunch of randoms to string together.
Don't have all the details about Null yet but this is what I'm getting at so far. |
