Not sure if anyone frequents Destructiod like myself, but they posted up an article just a couple of days ago releasing a thousand new dusters onto us all. Mm! Fresh meat.. Ha-ha. Nonetheless I hope to see these new Dusters coming forth soon if they already have not. Now if these are full access or limited timed access keys -- I have no information myself.
Here is a link to the page though -- We're Giving Away 1.000 Dust514 Beta Keys! -- if you have a friend or you know someone who wants into Dust514 then they better hurry. There may a key or two left infact. Maybe. I'm unsure again. Anyway enjoy.
To the Dusters who are here due to this giveaway welcome. |

Hm. Well I was already getting those shortly after we shifted over to the current server. I think it's algorithim error where the match making is jamming everyone in as fast possible, and more often then not it leads to error. I have always disliked match making though with a passion. Give me server selection any day. |

Agreed matchmaking is generally more trouble than it's worth. However games that do it right, it works pretty well.
But I do want to say something about people getting the "server full" message, I don't think the server is full, its just a bug. Cause I can get it over and over and over, but once I do my little 'trick' I get in a match no problems.
What is that trick? Simple, start to join a match, and as soon as you see the pop-up, hit O to cancel out then try again. You should land in a match the very next try, at least it usually always does for me. In cases where it doesn't work, I'll just do it one more time. |

That by definition is a "bug" and error. Still very few games have noteworthy match making. Warhawk's match making is even shaky and too much trouble. Especially since the servers are unsupervised and you can be thrown into a match where people are cheating, bending the system to their needs, lopsided matches, and the list goes on. Call of Duty's match making is well.. Crap. Simple as that. Then again I've complained about that since Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare. I admire CCP for trying to enstall parameters to their matchmaking, but likely it will prove too cumbersome, clunky, unreliable, and a resource drain on their development teams, and end up being a gimmick in the end.

(Server Selection > Matchmaking)
In defense of Dust's matchmaking, it could be a lot worse. Generally I haven't had any major issues with it like I have with others games matchmaking (like KZ3 for example). Aside from the server full thing, it usually throws my into a match quickly with very few issues.
However matchmaking in a game like KZ3 (not sure if it got fixed, so I'll speak of the launch MM) was a horrendous ordeal. Granted the game actually puts you in a decently full match, 9 times out of 10 it was a one-sided slaughter-fest, in which you were now cannon fodder for. But I am getting ahead of myself, as this is what happens when the game actually puts you in a full match. The rest of the time is spent searching, being placed in a empty room that never fills up, leave, search, get placed in the SAME empty room... rinse and repeat. I think the average time it took me to land in a decently filled room that was fairly balanced, was about 35-45mins.
As for Warhawks matchmaking, well not sure if they patched something since I have been gone, but the matchmaking that was there on launch, or shortly thereafter, I wouldn't consider any kind of true matchmaking. That was more of a "Put me in some random room" function. KZ2 had the same type of "matchmaking", which I wouldn't consider matchmaking. Both Warhawk and KZ2 were famous for their server lists, the "matchmaking" functions were probably just put in as a last second thought and were never coded to have true matchmaking abilities.
COD matchmaking seems to work pretty well, and by that I mean it usually places you into matches reliably. But I would assume this only happens because there is such an abundance of players playing at any given time of the day, so even shoddy matchmaking algorithms can place people in full matches somewhat consistently.
But either way, I agree with you, server lists are infinitely better in so many ways. And from what i can see in the match search window, is that we will have server list option for this game. |

Ugh.. KILLZONE3. What a trully gawdawfull game. I was there launch, and I was repulsed by what happened to KILLZONE. I won't even consider that game for anything. Bad map designs, limited multiplayer, bad balance, and the list goes on. Too much arcade shooter, too little KILLZONE. The story alone went to $h!t in a handbasket. Bleh!
Anyway! Back on topic; one thousand new Dusters! Yay! New build and massive update coming this month.. YAY! |

Well I have been having tons of trouble playing tonight, only got in one game so far (been attempting to play for about an hour now). The rest of the time has been spent restarting the game, having the game freeze on me (and my PS3 "beep" at me multiple times upon restart), getting stuck at the "Waiting for battle" prompt, getting stuck at the main intro screen (after I select my character slot) getting invalid fittings, selecting instant battle yet nothing ever happens, getting "server full" multiple times in a row, etc etc.
Not sure if its due to the new influx of players or not, but this is awful. In the chat rooms for my 'local' area, others are having issues too.
Now I am also getting a "The battle you requested is no longer available" prompt. Ugh, I just want to play dammit! I can only hope my failure to play is giving valuable stats to the team involved in server maintenance. |
