Don't laugh but my average SP per match is only around 2500 or so. At this rate it'll take me forever to put points into anything meaningful.
I know people won't want to give secrets away but I just need a basic understanding of what gives good SP.

Depends on your play style I think fella.
If you're not great with getting kills, perhaps try a Logistic build? Follow groups of players around with a Revival Injector and a NanoHive for a bit, you get some good points for that which means more SP at the end of the match.
I carry a Uplink, Revival and Nano or Repair, Revival and Nano, which allows me to help my team out quite a bit and gain around 10k+ SP every match. |

Yeah, equip a nanite injector and either a nanohive or repair tool.
War Points are what determines how much SP you get. WP are those numbers that pop up for everything, +50 for a kill etc. Revives are worth +60, up to I think +150 if there's a squad order nearby. Repairing people's armor with a repair tool will likely get you more WP than resupplies from a nanohive, since you can follow people around more easily than herd them to the nanohive (plus repairs are +25 and resupplies are only +10 I believe). |

Another way to gain sp is to help with hacking things. Also putting down a droplink/nanohive will help some as well. You gain sp each time someone other than yourself uses it. |

From memory so I might be a bit off.
Killing an opponent +50 Assisting in a kill +25 Vehicule kill assist +35 Reviving a teammate +60 Ressuplying friendlies with a hive +10/tick Repairing suit/vehicule +25/tick Destroying ennemy objectives +50 to +100 Successful hack of objective +100 Hack of instalations +50
Running around with hives and needles is a good way to be helpful to your team and earn some good points, especially if you're note the best trigger out there, I usually equip my logi with either a shotgun or a mass driver, forces me in a support role.
Another good way to get those SP is to destroy ennemy instalations turrets die in three swarms from the Militia Swarm Launcher. Use either scout or assault suit, fit an smg in your sidearm slot, a hive in your equipment slot and swarm away.

Assault Rifle and Nanohive. Get to the front and get stuck in. Resupply large groups at defensible positions and always push to kill and cap objectives. Making SP is all about work rate, so just make yourself useful at all times and it will flow in.
On top of that, doing all of the above will help you learn. |

Everyone above pretty much covered what you can do as an individual. If you really want to exponentially increase your SP haul find a half decent squad with a squad leader that knows what they're doing and fill a support role for them, or build your own. Tagging command orders is the way to go. |

Hack assists +25/50 Drop Uplink +25/drop (spawn)
I carry drop uplinks all the time and place them on strategic spots. It'll give you +25 for every drop, so the better you place them, the more your teammates will use them. |

Thanks all,
I'm torn between trying to get WP in order to get SP to put some points into things and learning........
As someone quite rightly pointed out..... I'll learn more by just getting stuck in, so perhaps a Logi with Shotgun and the nano's, droplinks etc etc......
I'm thinking of the Mercenary Pack...... would this help me with the above? Slot load wise I mean?
I've not even tried Logi yet, do things happen automatically? ie if I approach someone that needs repping or reviving, do I have to switch equipment around or dies it just give me a 'press O' to use?
Thanks again for the tips, as I said I don't want everyones trade secrets (well I do, but I'm smart enough not to ask ), I just need some tips....
I've mentioned in another thread this is my first ever attempt at an FPS game other than one game of DOOM where my little brother kicked my butt some 15 years or so ago........
Cheers

The Merc pack is well worth it. The skill booster is pretty handy when starting out. The Dragonfly Scout suit is a free unlimited Standard suit and the Toxic SMG is also.
Those three things together when used right can net you some nice SP and for zero ISK.
Let alone the 4k AUR you get that can enable you to buy better gear earlier. |

+1 to this. Logi at high levels can be tricky but it's also a great entry class because as a new player you can stay completely out of the firefight and keep supporting your team. Drop hives, uplinks, revives, repairs.
In games which have supply depots, objectives, or any other point where your squad is likely to gather make sure you're there with all your gear to help them.
Also, Logi or no make sure you're following squad orders that'll help. And if you're squad leader make sure you issue squad orders (open weapon select --> R3 --> select order (defend is a good one) --> "fire" at target to tag it with order).
If you're still struggling get a mic, find a squad and learn to run with them, teamwork is the name of the game in dust so even if you don't have a mic or can't find a squad try to stick with your buddies when you're in a match (unless they're zerging a tank or some other self destructive practice).
I hope some of that helps :)

Just keep trying and eventually you'll get more points. Have you tried you hand as a vehicle pilot? If you can get a good gunner LAV's and dropshps can be deadly

If you have a headset you can listen once you enable comms even if you don't have a working mic. Enjoy the Merc Pack (the Booster is your friend, and the Dragonfly is a great way to deploy an uplink into a forward position for your team). |

Just got to work out how to purchase it now...........
Only realising now how little i use my PS3
Managed to purchase it, easier than i thought..... though the servers are down so I can't get in right now.
Do I need to apply the pack or is it automatically applied after purchase? ie will my new suit be hanging in my quarters pressed and ironed for me?

The pack is automatically applied [u[however[/u] the items (actual gear rather than the AUR) are not assigned until you login and do so. Make sure you put them on your main however because they aren't able to be switched once assigned. |

Snipe. Yeah, we get some grief because ppl think we sit on mountains and protect our own kdr, not true, well, not for me anyway. see this thread on snipers and teamwork: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=35746&find=unread decent tactics can easily net you 20k sp per match, and I'm not that good. Support your team! ;) |

I think I said in your other thread - as soon as you enter the battle check to see if you are the squad leader. You can do this by hitting the select button. If you name is at the top of your squad you are the leader.
If you are then set objectives.
These could be to defend a point, to take a point or to defend a LAV, HAV or even a person. Any SP earning points around your objective are subject to a bonus, which is great for your squad members and you get an SP bonus.
You set an objective by opening your map and using the controller to move the marker around to the place you want to set the objective.
Look out for your orbital strike command - when it arrives hit the vehicle but select orbital strike and pick a nice red sot on the map.
It amazes me how many squads I am in where the leader doesn't bother setting any objectives. |
