Remember to try out different fittings, weapons and dropsuits! Dont stick with one fitting all the time, the reason we play this beta is to see how everything works! So if you are an assault, try grabbing a sniper rifle and test it out for a while. Also, we are still going to loose our stuff in the wipe, so why just going on leveling up one thing instead of leveling up different things! |

yeah, tell that to my million point build that masters nothing. getting butchered by min-maxers left and right because they pumped all their points in one skill and are running around with prototype everything getting 26/0. i will be trying something completely new next reset. just to see if it is fun. |

Leveling up multiple things only brings a very slight and fractionally marginal improvement, and is not worth choosing over the starter kits (which are free and unlimited). I have almost 1.5 million SP so far, and absolutely nothing to show for it because I spread that SP out over multiple things (foolish, which I now understand).
The way I see it is, if I am going to level something up, I want to see a noticeable difference. So therefore I have learned that I have to focus on one thing for a very long time to get decent results. Getting an extra 22HP means nothing to me and isn't worth the trouble, however getting 66 extra HP is something to aim for (and even then it is mostly useless... what is that, like one extra bullet from the weakest gun in the game?). |

Yeah, you got that right actually, but for example you could level up something lese than infantry based stuff. Level up stuff so that you are able to use a tank? Try the tank out, yes I know it is not so good to use tanks right now but you are testing it out and that is the thing. Level up things like faster hacking is also an example, and see how that works out |

I've done the spread and yeah sometimes things get very painful but one good decision was to put points to get nano hives. Now when sniping I don't have to make my way down to a resupply point. |

That would be how I operate. 6mil skill points and only two skills at 5! |

I tried to go a different direction each build inorder to better understand classes and their pathing. I think its good to test every aspect, but really the main incentive should be that knowledge how what kills who or how to kill is half the battle! |

15mil sp, got grenades up, all drop suits except scout at least lv 2, assault is 1m away from Proto. Did lavs and dropships last build, don't like tanks full stop. Maxed forge gun, Proto swarms, loads of other random skills. Scrambler proficiency 3 too- love the scramblers. Got uplinks, hives nanites etc. After Proto suit, I'll get Proto assault rifles too. Oh, and I also have sniper proficiency 3. I'v probably forgot stuff though...
Testing complete? Lol |

Thing with Dust assuming its like Eve is that you plan skill training long term. It wasn't so long ago in Eve we would train learning for maybe a month on a new toon before even touching any other training. (thank god they got rid if that).
The only thing that skews that a bit in dust is that you get sp for results, so it will be important to throw some sp around into areas where "cheap" instant gains will come from.
It will definatly help when the game goes live knowing where you intend to go. |

There's a major distinction between Dust and Eve and that is that you can change roles mid-battle.
In Eve, when you encounter a hard counter to your build you either pop or go home. In Dust you switch to a different loadout and get revenge. Thus diversity has an advantage in Dust where it doesn't in Eve.
E.g.: In the E3 build there were two kinds of infantry players. Those who accepted the fact that you needed an alternative AV-fit to switch to in the case of necessity and those who didn't and instead went on the forums to complain about the free militia vehicles. |

I'm happy skilling stuff up to lv 2 for a 10% buff, some stuff ive gone to lv4, some to lv5, some I'm still getting to lv 4.
I've mostly gone deep into shields and armor, because i knew i wasn't going to go past the type 2 heavy suit, started going drop ships, but changed my mind, and just spammed militia ones. Hoping i can get advanced FG and proto MD before reset, otherwise its HMg as main weapon... or type 1 logi suit nano/repper/uplink with tactical AR
>.< having the armor and shield buffer has helped alot no matter what i start to spec into. |
