There is a "stop gap" measure that you can do to avoid getting the dreaded squad bug. But there is no known hot fix. this is what my friend and I did.
1. I had joined my friends squad and we played a few battles. We had no "Invalids". So my buddy, in battle quits DUST 514 client while we are in battle. I am still in battle. after the battle is over I am still in the squad but not Squad leader. Although he is no longer in the squad. Now I can not join battle. So I leave Squad. Now I can join squads and enter Instant Battle.
My buddy comes back from PS3 XMB with a freshly started client. He can not join battles. For him this is okay. He is squad leader. He leaves the squad. He can still join Instant battle.
2. I join up in my buddy's Squad with him as leader again. In battle he ends the client and returns to PS3 XMB. I still have the option to leave squad, but i don't. Instead I also end the client and return to PS3 XMB. I start running the DUST 514 client, log in and try to enter Instant battle and "Can not join battle when the squad is deployed".
I also can not join squads or invite my buddy whom was the squad leader back to the squad. He can enter battle and does, and he ask me to try and enter battle. "Can not join battle when the squad is deployed".
The "Stop gap" measure...
Do not join squads. make your own squad and lock it, with no squad members. This will keep you from joining Team squads randomly generated. and will ensure you are always squad leader. If you are in a squad and your Squad leader has to restart for any number of reasons, then all members should leave the squad immediately. If you do not quit the game and leave squad before hand, then you can possibly avoid this nasty flu. If your Squad Leader has to restart and you are, say "soft locked" and have to restart then you are forever locked in a squad that doesn't exist from that point on.
Currently this is all we have been able to find. if anyone else has reproduced this in the same fashion, or other. Let us know please.

If he leaves his current squad this may fix your issue. I had the same problem when I was the squad leader and my friend was having the same issue. I left my squad as the leader and it immediately freed him up to join matches and create squads.
We did try what you had suggested. and No "Justicar Kel" can not enter Instant battle. Nor can My friend (whom was squad leader) invite me back to squad. I am locked in a squad that does not exist, and can't leave. |

He has, joined Instant battle solo in his own squad (with him as leader) quit battle and left squad. I can not get invites, give invites, or join Instant battle still. |

Edit: To clarify, A restart may be necessary if squad member restarts system before leaving squad. That is when they need the squad leader to perform the fix and then the member restarts game.
Need to correct that.. The squad members need to leave squad first. then the squad leader should leave squad.
If the squad is, say "soft locked on a load screen" When multiple squad members need to restart. The person whom was squad leader needs to enter battle on restart, Join any other squad, quit squad, create a squad, and to be safe lock squad, then quit battle. This will free up anyone who was squad locked with the original squad.
For the members of the squad whom had a squad leader whom had to restart while in squad. After the original squad leader does the step in the previous paragraph. Then those squad members will still not be able to make a squad, join a squad, but they can enter instant battle. Enter Instant Battle, then join any other squad and then leave that squad. then leave battle. |
