Anyone had a chance to fly one with the new AV stats?
Typically it takes quite a few volleys of the militia launcher to take me down, and that's usually if i'm careless. Curious to know how we flying rectangles fair now. |

Considering Swarm Launchers wrecked Dropships before, and now they're not only buffed but forge guns are back in action (apparently), I have no plans of taking my dropships into the air anytime soon.
Dropships need some serious attention now.. hopefully a buff is next after tanks are done.
But as a SL AV player, I'm looking forward to wrecking some tanks again. |

I was flying around a militia dropship and got hit twice by swarms and it took me out. However, I'm a big newbie at flying them that might have something to do with it. Anyone have any tips? haha |

I have an armor tanked Grim and it seems like when I do get hit its pretty heavy sense it takes about 3 shots to kill me, not sure what type of swarm launcher though. One thing I've been doing recently is practicing a tactic on how to simply avoid lock-on's from the swarms by flying as close to the ground as possible so I have buildings and terrain to cover me, it works with keeping them off of me, but my gunners usually have a much more challenging time hitting their targets. |

Yeah, don't fly the militia ships. They were flying coffins before the AV Buff and they're even more so now. Just save up and put together a solid dropship set up. It should cost you at least 500,000 isk for one full dropship (including modules). Then you can actually practice your flying and not get dropped out of the sky by a goose not paying attention. |

I'll take my Myron out for a spin tonight and let you know. I suspect that I may keep it hangered after that though considering the AV buff and shield debuff.
I don't want CCP to just dump more HP on the ship so it can act like an airborn tank. I would much prefer active defenses such as chaff, flares, and evasive maneuvers that depend upon pilot skill to evade rather than soak up damage. I'll have to keep moving to avoid forge guns and that's fine with me, but it would be nice to be able to judge range/altitude to judge my exposure to that in any situation.
All that won't come until the next build, along with the new WP awards which will further clarify the dropship's role in the eyes of CCP. |

You know what else isn't in yet? Cloaks, Electronic Warfare, Laser Rifles, and more. Guess since they're not in this current build of a Beta for a game that's release is still a year away it must mean they don't intend to include them.

Dont use dropships cause before the AV hotfix they where allready flying pinatas. Now they are flying suicide coffins. out of all vehicles the dropships suffering the most from the AV buff and tank nerf. Espacially if there are forgegunners you cant predict them and if you get hit you are toasted. |

I guess I should have placed my own sarcasm tags on that.
I've mentioned this many times, and CCP is actually addressing the WP issue in the next build along with giving us eWar modules and afterburners.
My point was that dropships were devloped as transports but pilots were only rewarded for missusing them as gunships. Yes I want gunships and fighters, but I also want dropships to get used as intended. Up until now doing so meant you stopped dead in your tracks as far as SP went. |

Drop ships need some sort of missile jammer or flare, but if you get wacked by a forge gun - that is due to the skill of the users involved.
They're the troop transport of the game, I personally don't want to see them in the role of hot-air balloon artillery platform by giving them too much HP, but if they're moving from place to place they should be able to dust a missile lock or two on the way. |
