I think you are too harsh on our extended family born from the same star. They are champions of freedom* and independence**!
*Freedom to follow all mandates and desires of the Senate and the lobbyists who have paid to place them in power, or be labeled a rebel. ** Independence will be seen as an aggressive action and will be dealt with quickly. If you know of a people seeking independence, contact your nearest federation navy officer immediately.
Honestly now, I'm surprised the federation isn't in bed with the Amarrians. When you strip away the facade of righteousness and goodness, you really are so much alike.
It's just a shame we weren't there to forge a friendship with the Minmatar instead of you. We actually know a thing or two about being oppressed. |

ALSO OUT OF CHARACTER (Hey this roleplaying thing is pretty fun I should have tried it before now)
The thing that makes the backstory between the Gallente and the Caldari (and all the races really) so damn fun is that there's no black or white morality. Neither side is innocent. The whole conflict is filled with lies and misunderstandings, and naturally the citizens of each nation prefer to believe their own side of the story.
Some power-hungry jackasses a few hundred years ago took over the gallente federation on the base of "SEE? The Caldari are building a secret fleet! They wont pay their taxes and they have a whole crapload of colonies that they didn't tell us about for centuries, all while pretending to be part of the federation! They're gonna break off from the federation and attack us by surprise!" Then the whole Nouvelle Rouvenor terrorist attack happened and all hell broke loose.
Now, the same thing happened pretty much in reverse. Hundreds of years later, after nearly a century of ceasefire and several previous attempts at peace, the Caldari State and Gallente Federation were actually about to start negotiations for a real, lasting peace and amends for the war thanks almost entirely to the efforts of the Ishukone corporation. Then both sides watched in horror as the Gallente supercarrier containing the delegates casually inserted itself into the observation deck the peace talks were going to take place in, killing everybody.
A power hungry Caldari jackass used this terrorist attack to pour gas all over the fire of pent-up Caldari xenophobia. "We tried to make peace, and they killed a space station full of our people for it! Let's go to war again!" He got even more support by convincing the Caldari Navy that they could take back the Caldari homeworld by force (it has been under control of the Gallente Federation ever since the war started). This naturally made everyone involved salivate in anticipation of the RIGHTEOUS JUSTICE that would be served so they went along with the idea. **** peace! So here we all are, fighting the same generations-old war again.
There's more to the story, of course. There always is.
It's exactly like Tony says; there are no truly "good guys" in New Eden, because the thing that makes the people and factions so interesting is all of their flaws.
Also this is what the gallente quarters look like like all things gallente it is full of stupid sexy curves |
