Because they are firing NON EXPLSOIVE slugs at targets. They don't explode, there for, they should not have any splash damage. |

Realistically internet spaceships shouldn't be able to stop on a dime but they do. |

meteors are non explosive objects that hit dirt with nothing but kinetic energy and yet they tend to leave some pretty ****ing big craters
The small railgun has no splash worth mentioning but the big railgun is shooting a bigger chunk of metal with more energy
I'm guessing the spallation produced from the impact is enough to kitten up a dropsuit
Hell if you want another reason the railgun shells in EVE spaceships are actually plasma canisters which are also used to fuel blasters, giving the railgun-launched canister an extra thermal damage component. Maybe it's the same for the large railguns in dust |

Then why doesn't my forge gun have splash? Enough to take out anyone I aim at? Isn't it an adaption of a mining laser from space? The rail gun at this time is the one hit wonder it does extreme damage to both infantry and to tanks. My grenades are smart enough not to do both, if they go off. So it makes since in the dust world it should not be both a tank killer and infantry killer. |

Throw a chunk of rock and metal fast enough, it will create it own explosion due to the insane amount of kinetic energy. Ask the dinosaurs about it. |

I do agree they need to reduce the damage on splash. The only time you should kill some one with splash is if your right on his feet. but within 5m it should take 2 shots to take most suits down 3-4 on heavies unless your right on target or withing 1m of the target. |

to listen to tank drivers you mightn't guess it: but the forge gun, the most nerfed weapon in the game. |

When they impact ground or "solid" material ... Fragments scatter and those fragments are off the Slug and their very hot shards... And really who cares?
I like shooting drop ships with rail guns. If you angle it just right you can kill everyone in there after sheilds are dropped. I killed the pilot in one... It was the funniest thing. I imagine the passengers where like WTF, this pilot sucks... As they started spiraling out of control. |

An REALISTICALLY... being shot by a railgun. A force field may deflect the blast, but that blast would send you flying what ever trajectory of that rail was going at. AND realistically being shot in the leg with that would take your lower torso off cauterizing it... So you essentially wouldn't be dead but... Cut in half.
Sorta like how there is never any blood in starwars. The laser goes threw them, cutting a hole and cauterizing(burnt closed) it on exit, literally shooting clean chunks out of who ever shot with it.
You can go look at a real rail gun on Youtube... Look up Naval rail gun fire testing... Tell me if that wouldn't have any type of blast radius. |

summary: anything is explosive if it is traveling at a high enough velocity. |

I think forge guns do have like a 2 meter 15 damage splash radius or something though....

Larg railguns should have a splash radius of 1,5m and a decreased splash damage too. Small railguns should have 0,5m splash radius and forge guns should have 1m splash radius and about 90 splah damage. |
