So do you mean the gunners have rep tools or the gunners can use rep tools from inside the tank? Cuz that second one is bullkitten. Plus armortanks need to stay above 50% or they start burning, constantly taking damage... and as you stated, shields appear to have better resistances.
Furthermore, shield tanks don't have to sacrifice anything for changing their focus. what goes into the high slots? Shield modules. What goes into the low slots? Armor, damage, powergrid/shield buffs. Armor HAS to buff its armor, or sacrifice it for extra power. Shield doesn't.
A shield tank chooses, an armor tank obeys. |

But I agree. Shield tanks need a higher passive repair rate and shield boosters should be active longer and have shorter downtimes. Armor tanks are pretty much easier to fit because they need just repairers while shield tanks need the boosters too.
I'm pretty sure that they removed the inherent buff on the Marauder hulls.
Also... 'Armor tanks are pretty much easier to fit because they need just repairers while shield tanks need the boosters too'.
lolwut?
Shield tanks need armor repair units? The fact that they can still FIT an armor repair unit with the shield is just wrong in and of itself. When I outfit an armor tank, chances are I can't fill both high slots because of the shear amount of fitting requirement the armor tank requires, and even if I COULD fit something there, I can only choose a dropsuit shield repper, shield boosters, shield rechargers, or shield extenders. As in, nothing that helps my armor tank with the skills I spent to get into an armor tank. Added on top of that, armor (supposedly) slows you down when you heap it on, while shield extenders... they don't even have flavortext that says they have a downside.
Also, to the OP, do you realize how fast tanks are? A Logi can't extend the life of a tank by attempting combat repairs because it would slow the tank down... and the Logi would be immediately killed, but that is beside the point. Anything that slows a tank when it NEEDS repairs will kill it, because said tank either needs to break Line of Sight with a Forge, get around an obstacle from a Swarm, or evade/quickly kill a pursuing tank or dropship... and if such repairs ARE needed, the OMGI'MONFIRE damage negates most of it, if not all of any repair tool short of the vehicle specific one. |
