it's standard practise for CCP (and most other mmo devs) to diseminate info through dev blogs. the forums are not the ideal place to release new info. that said they generally do link the dev blog into a thread in the forums

Rorek,
I used to be a lot more upset with ccp's comms efforts than I have been recently. I love the forum, irc, blog and website feedback we are getting over the past couple of weeks
And, from someone who used to be very upset with their lack of forum feedback, I get where you are coming from. But, just to share, I have a new perspective on the communication efforts...
It seems to me that perhaps its not incompetence or lack of desire to communicate with the beta bubbas that inspires CCP to use multiple and varied channels for feedback. But, rather, that they want to train and prepare us to follow and seek such information through those varied channels.
Facebook, twitter, forums, blogs, YouTube, email, etc, ad nauseum... Is it frustrating? Does it take more individual player effort to get all the info into our brains? Would it be easier for you or me if they would just post ( or cross post) everything on this forum? Yes, maybe.
But what if DUST really catches fire and has hundreds of thousands of players? Despite our dedication to this forum info stream not everyone will drink as readily from this pond as from others.
Perhaps CCP wants to ready us for multi-channel info streams. (I've been learning this stuff in the call center I help run).
What REALLY helps the players here and now are folks like Iron Wolf, the OP of this thread and many others who cross-post feedback and alert us to new info when it comes out.
I am willing to give CCP the benefit of the doubt (hasn't always been the case on this matter) and see how the multi-channel info flow helps or hurts in the long run
/rant-off. Thanks

I've been wondering that. It might make sense for us to remain largely faceless mercs, although that could take the form of choosing from a range of merc avatars, or more interestingly, linking your available avatar designs to the suits you have available in-game. Alternatively, they could give Dust players access to the EVE avatar designer (via PC or possibly a PS3 version) and we can make our own human faces a la EVE.
It does seem a bit pointless for players to see our avatars if they are limited to only generic merc no.1-4.

This is a very important beginning to our Eve (not just Dust) career. Eve corps make up of thousands of players who form alliances of corps that make thousands more. Deciding which corp or alliance to join is one of the most important decisions that you continually make in Eve. This was probably posted before but do check out the following links to give you an idea of how big a world you'll be stepping into after the next update:
http://evewho.com/ Want to know which alliance has the most people, or who is in which alliance? Click here to find out.
http://evemaps.dotlan.net/ Created by an Eve player to automate the updating of any territorial (system ownership) changes by Eve alliances, this is essential also for navigating jump drive computations, tracking corp and alliance histories, and just getting a feel of how big Eve is.-á
http://go-dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Verite/influence.png And if you want a pictorial view of sovereignty ownership across New Eden (which is automatically updated daily), click on this link. Imagine that we can soon fight planetary wars across all the systems and in this universe, helping to shape the borders of rich and powerful alliances. This is where the persistent nature of our victories and defeats will be felt, and where Dust defers from every other shooter game that has come before, or will be.
Welcome to New Eden. |
