I am not a Tank Driver. I'm a grunt, and there are alot of you out there who've hate mailed me for being a KDR ***** when I got 11/0 or 19/1 in matches believing that I was that tank driver. I wasn't... I find being in a tank boring.
That being said, I hope CCP doesn't nerf tanks in the next build. I hope they instead, introduce more of the game features that deal with tanks. I'm talking about a big one. Installations.
We will be able, on the fly in a battle, lay out a series of turrets, supply depots, and other installations. Virtually setting up a 'Firebase' on the map.
Now, don't get me wrong, this wont eliminate the threat of tanks, nor should it... but people will be much more reluctant to bring down a tank if they know there may be a Railgun Installation set up overlooking that normally safe road.
Supply depots as well, allowing players to switch on the fly to AV loadouts, and switch back. Also, what about giving Supply Depots the ability to replenish equipment as well, such as Nano-hives. So you can hold a supply depot, go out and punch a few tickets. When you run out of ammo and resupply ability, let them come back to a supply Depot to get more.
Can you imagine, being in a tank, and drtiving out into the open against a pair of deployed Railgun Turrets? I'm not sure what the prevailing attitude of Tankers is, but that would scare the bejeseus out of me. Especially if combined with some AV Infantry.
So please... DO NOT nerf elements in the game now. Make sure EVERYTHING is introduced into the game BEFORE you balance. Balancing incomplete elements against current elements when they'll just have to be rebalanced against the new additions later on just means you'll have to rebalance again, further delaying the game's release, or reducing what is available at release.

Installations will rebalance many of the game's current (and often complained about) imbalances.
Railguns, Blaster Guns, and Missile Turrets will balance Vehicles, Infantry, and other Installations. The ability to halt or slow vehicular movement with large 'spiked balls' that we currently see on the field woudl allow AV infantry the time they want to obliterate tanks, but still allow the vehicle alternative paths to escape destruction.
CCP has always said they want the players to shape the battleields... and that was one of the major draws that many of us had to this game. Yes so far, there is no shaping. A single installataion, even a supply depot, will alter the battlefield. A Railgun will stop tanks rushing headlong down roads or blasting away with abandon. |

I don't think you read what I posted entirely. I want ALL nerfs to stop.
Everything, AV, CQC, Tanks, Dropships... EVERYTHING!
What I want to see, in a nutshell, is every element we will have at launch introduced before things are [u]REBALANCED.[/u
Installations are something that have been in the trailers since... pretty much the beginning. Yet we have yet to see them in game at all... Even the E3 trailer had installations dropping in... yet we didn't get them.
I don't want it to be a case of 'rebalance this vs. this' in current game state, add another element, oh darn now this element is underpowered 'rebalance this vs. this', now this is ... and so on and so forth... then lo and behold, they add another element, and it starts all over.
I know this is beta, I realise this is here for testing purposes, but when they buff, nerf, or rebalance elements in the game without having seen them matched up by the other unadded elements of the game, the process takes even longer. |

It's not about what is currently in the game, and that is exactly my point. Until we can 'shape the battelfield' as was promised. Or simply have more options to counter whatever comes, the game shouldn't be rebalanced until those elements are in it.
EDIT: Also, on current Railguns. They are often not manned, they fire much slower than manned ones, and do not pre-track vehicles unless that vehicle approches from the 'area' the turret is programmed to cover. Manned turrets often kill even good tanks by pro-actively killing them.
They are also comparatively weak when compared to tanks, LAVs, and Even Dropships. When all the other buildings are more difficult to destroy they remain simple to destroy, even for Infantry. 2-3 Direct hits with a Militia Swarm will anhilate most Installations. and with no way to replenish, your team has lost whatever advantage they did give you. |

Nerfing is bad... They should put more of the game into play to see if anything at all is actually too over powerful and really. They should work on counter measures before making something weaker.
Here. You understand what I'm saying.
More content -> More Counters and Possibilities -> More balance naturally.
Then... if something appears too weak, too powerful, or useless, fix it then in accordance with every element.
IMHO a 'Standard' Railgun (assuming they'll be tiered like tanks and weapons) should be able to beat a Standard Tank head-on (with right fittings of course) becuase it cannot move. It is much more vulnerable to hostile fire... but in that 1v1 slug fest, the installation should win.
Going up the tiers, with equal fittings and skills, the same should be said. But we wont know until these elements are in the game. |
