I have been a gamer for over 20 years.
Beta Testing is an essential part of game testing to ensure that the final product is as balanced and bug-free as possible.
when I have been accepted into a Beta test, I consider it an honor and a privilege to help make the product the best it can be.
Over the years however it seems that gamers treat Beta testing more like early access to a game, and less like the quality assurance activity it is meant to be.
Im seeing activity on the forums that seems more like entitled complaining, rather than constructive criticism.
Perhaps its just me, but I would like to see less drama and more constructive dialogue.
thanks for listenting. |

You're also seeing recruitment threads and a whole group of people who keep their stuff secret. GOOD JOB BETA TESTING. I agree op, though my "whining" usually has some pretty good logic behind it. |

Well while you actively blame a population of the people in question for treating a [beta] as a glorified demo; you have to also realize that a large number of these developers and publishers are the ones who started down that road first. Turning a [beta] into just that a glorified demo. It's been something happening for quite a bit now. It just did not start recently. This is a real [beta], but then you have games like -- SOCOM4, Battlefield3, KILLZONE3 -- and others whom are guilty of this. You can also blame programs like PlayStation Plus (the coupon book, and the couponers) for this trend also. Using the incentive of access to these qoute on qoute [betas] in a bid to garnish more sales for their program. As for the people in the community -- blame society, or the educational systems. |

Agreed with OP. Only wish more people realized this isn't even a release candidate but just another build in sequence.
Each build adds new mechanics, items etc for us to test in addition to what has already been tested and tweaked. People seem to think it is an early access beta, and maybe that's because CCP has been so liberal with keys for the marketing. I can't really say.
I do know though that what we do generates errors and log reports for them to review and capture what happens. The new build, coming up, probably contains nearly all fixes required for the current build, and so they'll add more content for us to test.
It's how these things are done. The first beta test I participated in was Ultima Online: The Second Age back in like 1999. |

I think the frustration for a lot of people is that people report bugs but very rarely if ever does a dev acknowledge the situation. I have worked in software QA before and the silence makes it difficult when there is no two way communication.
I am not advocating that every bug gets a dev response, but weekly or even bi-weekly acknowledgement of issues that are being worked on would be helpful. But its wishful thinking I guess since most (not just CCP) developers do not regard forums as the primary means to get feedback and instead just regard them as just a place for testers to "hang out."
But yes, complaining doesn't solve anything. Just post your issues and cross your fingers that eventually they get fixed. But I do understand the frustration out there. |

Well, after some proper (no moaning, no "I deserve", constructive issues etc) discussion here we got https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=300749
Frankly if people would use the search function, or even click the "dev posts" tab once in a while it would be easier for the GM's and DEV's to respond here. |

I only ask because, I am a member of BHD (Better Hide or Die), and good friends with, Plymco_Pilgrim. So yeah. As for the forums after getting into a fight in private messages with, Butt_Pirate (Sushi_Pirate) an admin for Sony forums; I was permemantly banned for calling him out on his and his staffs abusal of administration powers. Also made a comment about how, Shungokusatsu, was not only a better rival then him, but a better moderator as well. I was thus banned though, and still am to this day. So I cannot really log onto any forums. The MAG forums included. Still... |

The frustration comes from the unresponsiveness of the gm or dev. You report a bug, you hear nothing, if we are testers then treat us like testers. Do not treat us as just plain old gamers, ohh its just a complaint. The invalid thing i see has been complained about for the longest no comments to the ppl about it. In defense to the management team i do see a thread with weekly updates about bugs ( shoulda been there long time ago).
I also agree that it is an honor to beta test. You must realize that every voice is important. When you treat testers like clients there is gonna be a problem. Can u ignore your clients or testers.? If our words are impt then simple acknowledgment of them will suffice. The silence removes the actual work done by your tester and really makes them feel useless. The result is them saying what am I really doing this for. Now you have lost their enthusiasm. which is counter productive.
If Duncan Hines has cake testers and one of them says the cake tatses like garlic when its supposed to be strawberry, if ignored that cake will not sell as well as projected (cant ask why when its clearly still garlic flavor). We all have 5 spheres of influence. Never in business forget that ! |

Rorek, the only thing I hold against BHD was not making a huge deal of the AntiAir glitch on 4th platoon on Absheron. It was your map (Sver). When the maps went both ways I was like OMG, those dirty cheats :P But forum MVPs will be held accountable, regardless of the fact zipper were imbeciles. Only since zipper died have any true mag fanboys started to understand.
Edit: CCP should post the fitting of the top 100 players. Then people can ask about why this or why that. |
