This might explain my situation, I have some serious lag issues over here (I mean its REALLY bad at times), not sure if it's my connection or the game, but every so often when I start a game all my loadouts are INVALID and I can't spawn and have to quit and re-try.
Also I once thought that lag switching doesn't work on this game, but last night at the very end of a match some sniper one-shot-killed 4 or 5 of my trammates in less than a second. This player was also something like 15-0 too.

You'll be lucky if the server doesn't immediately disconnect you, especially with the current beta servers situation. If successful, while you're lagged out, you're character will be standing still in-game. The server will acknowledge people killing you but will not acknowledge anything you did while lagged out. When you flip your little magic switch back , you'll probably be dead, while anyone you shot while you were in your own little lag world won't be harmed at all. So by all means please use a lagswitch when you play against me. I love killing stationary targets.
Lag switches aren't cut and dry, there is many different methods. The most basic possible way is to simply sever the Rx or Tx with a switch of sorts. But this is the easiest to detect and for the most part, doesn't work at all in most games these-days. And yes I have experimented in the past with lag switches, I was curious, sue me. But I can honestly say I haven't attempted anything in this game.
Now what you are saying is generally true, however a slightly more advanced lag switch generally can do two things: One way, which you describe, has your character stand still while in a lag session, this player sees other players moving around. Second way is where your character is still moving to the other players, however the players to him, are standing still. I have managed to pull both these off in KZ2 years ago, which used dedicated servers. Both of these methods rely on some sort of caching on the client device, if hits aren't cached on the client device and sent out upon re-connection (and accepted by the server), then it probably won't work. But in KZ2, you can do a lag session, shoot 5-7 people, reconnect and they all immediately drop dead.
Then you have the uber advanced lag switch, which utilizes a 555-timer. If done correctly, this type can be pulled off on any game without ever being detected. I only know of this type from theory, never tried it myself so I don't know how it would look to other players or to the player using it while in a lag session. Good news is, usually only people who are pretty fluent in networking understanding have the ability to successfully use/create these. And if they are smart enough to make this, then they probably know a good deal about packet injection, and lag switching would be the least of your worries. |

Trevor K wrote:Lag is horrible! It's like I'm playing in slow motion. I have a 10 Mb connection used solely for my PS3, that should be more than enough for this game. Also, how is it possible to shoot an opponent with a full clip of 60 AR rounds at point blank range and do little to no damage while they shoot you 5 or 6 times with same weapon and you die right away? Yes I am aiming & hitting them. I have 355 combined HP. Using basic assault drop suit, because I refuse to spend on upper tier suits with the game this way. Something ain't right here.
Sadly, lag is not bound by bandwidth. Even if somebody had a 200 GB up/down speed, they can still lag worse than somebody playing on the slowest DSL available. |
