We all can agree MAG is/was great. Zipper, however, (read 'Sony' because they bought the Zipper and chained them to a SOCCOM production line) was a bad content provider. I don't blame zipper people, though - in the end they all got fired by Sony (I live in Seattle and Zipper was a local company, so I feel bad for the guys) - they created a great product but unfortunately (this is just my opinion) in the end were just slaves to Sony and were unable to support MAG and its community. Despite the lack of support, MAG is hands down the best FPS. The kind of game that was played by and enjoyed by people over 20 . Epic battles clashes, fairly balanced weapons. Gunplay was amazing - hard to master, no auto aim Bullshit, extremely rewarding once you master it. Clan system when excellent, there was communication and team based tactics - you don't find this in any other game. It's hard to compare Dust to MAG because Dust has not been released yet but I think it's fair to say what my (or our - MAG community's) expectations are toward DUST - it should be similar to MAG. It has to reward team play and communication and it has to be a good FPS (gunplay should be much better than what it is now). What it could and should try to do better than MAG is a better clan war system - I am totally confident that the game will succeed at that because clan war/ turf conquest is at its core. Likewise, the game will offer a living breathing vast world, something that MAG unfortunately never had. I think one thing is for sure: DUST SHOULD BE THE IDEOLOGICAL HEIR TO MAG. When a non MAG fan starts explaining how DUST is not MAG and should not aim to be - just think about THIS: most people who are truly excited about DUST are MAG fans who are looking for a new clan/ team tactics based FPS (after Sony dumped MAG and stopped supporting our community). There is just nothing on Playstation now besides DUST that fills that niche. At the core of DUST community are not Eve fans who continue to fly their ships and care little to none about DUST - I play Eve and at least in my corp there were only two guys who were curious about DUST, the rest just ignore it. So if DUST developers ignore the wishes of old MAG vets, the only FPS community that cares deeply about clan wars and the META game that comes with it, they will lose a lot of support of a huge chunk of their core supporters. On my part I can say that I bought the Merc pack - not because I want that flashy AUR gun - but to show my support for DUST developers and as a gesture of good will that DUST will be a polished product that is as fun to play as MAG. Please, add likes if you agree with the post. MAG community should have a voice in DUST. |

I agree with you. Some of the most memorable things I have ever done in a game I have done in MAG. That game provided an experienced that you had to have had in order to understand why that game is so special to so many players. There is just something about how that game funneled people together and was able to make you feel like you were apart of something great.
I think Dust will accomplish what MAG did, but I think Dust will be much better at it. Being set in New Eden gives us the chance to actually participate in a living universe the likes of which, potentially, no FPS player has ever seen. Think instead of SVER/VALOR/RAVEN that player created corps will be just as large as those factions and the space they occupy, the territory they control, won't be some arbitrary line in the sand. The politics, the wars, the story will all be player created and that creation will take on a life of its own in way that MAG could never have hoped.
Well said. + 1 |
