Planet side 2 is a lot more like MAG. Today, I was defending the same choke points for two hours.
It reminded me totally of MAG when in Sabo C is charged and the timer stops, and the match just keeps going until something gives....this was exactly like that but even better because there were a total of six letters being defended in close vicinity of each other, with enemies spawning from inside the letters at times, as well as an onslaught from all sides including armored vehicles, infantry and aircraft.
This battle went on for two hours, then finally the NC ahem SVER were pushed back to another hex.
This battle was the most insane, intense fps battle I have experienced. It was MAG on steroids, this was fps ecstacy.
If dust increases player numbers I think it could deliver a closer experience to MAG in terms of fps intensity and mechanics. I really hope that this does happen. Because, overall, despite obvious beta issues, dust is a very good game. Just needs time and patience.
But if you are looking for MAGorgasm then PS2 may be more your cup of tea...

Planetside 2 is and will be better than Dust.
But but it has competitive play
Competitive play aka corp/clan battles mean **** if gunplay and movement sucks!
Wow. That's a big turn around from one of the biggest supporters of dust and the biggest detractors of ps2.
Gotta say though, my experience with the two betas, PS2 is far closer to MAG and has been much more enjoyable, even as a beta, than dust.
I'm not saying dust is bad or garbage or anything like that, its just not as good as the ps2 beta.
PS2 is grander than MAG even in beta, where dust is a poor cousin to MAG while still a beta. Sure, MAG was a finished product, but as far as betas go, PS2 is ex MAG player heaven.
Edit: hey Regis what does Stew think of your new opinion? Lol |

Rorek IronBlood wrote:Okay.. I love MAG as much as the next persons, and I was there playing MAG since the first [beta], but seriously the two are far from one another. They share the same grandeur ideas, and I do think CCP tries to pay homage when it can -- dropsuits and whatnot. However as everyone has said the two are far from one another. PlanetSide2 probably feels more like MAG, but that is more explainable by the fact that Sony and it's branch SOE (Sony Online Entertainement) own the IP (Intelectual Property) known as MAG and I can assure that some of people from Zipper probably took jobs with Sony again even after Sony closed down Zipper Interactive. Just saying things can be explained for that feeling of magic.
In terms though MAG compared to either Dust514, or PlanetSide2 is the ancient ancestor to a much grandeur realization. It's still a solid title to be sure. It's just a shame that Sony and both Zipper allowed it to die, and hindered it from ever being truelly better. They can pay their homage, but the three are still different with only loose ties to one another.
Partially true and I only say that because MAG was modelled from the original Planetside. |

I wish I could try PS2 but unfortunately I don't have a gaming computer and I'm not about to buy one.
The spec isnt that fancy. For the love of MAG...is all I can say lol because this is, after all, a dust forum....but I'll say a bit more
I will be playing both when launched but my prediction is that I will spend a lot more time on PS2 because its like that intensity/ecstacy of a timer stopped sabo game, but on a domination numbers game with unlimited time...
if the situation is right, it doesn't last for just that extra five or ten minutes, but that battle goes on for hours at a time....thats what I just cannot get over.....I spent over two hours on the same choke points with just so much intense action because just like MAG SVER, the PS2 equivalents the NC just push hard....two hours I ran between six letters in close proximity...the numbers on each faction in this area, were mind boggling.....ain't ever seen anything like it in my whole life...colossal battle... |

It sounds awesome, how are the FPS mechanics? RBS, aim assist, or any of that type of bullshit? In other words, does skill matter in this game?
Bro this is MAG on a bigger scale.....right now I can't see RBS, this is point and shoot and you gotta aim....sometimes the beta has lag issues but us west servers have been very stable.....skill matters in PS2....aiming for the head does the job....what's totally amazing is the similarity to MAG... 3 factions and NC cough cough SVER are so much like MAG but without their my map is op advantages...but NC right now still has slightly better weapons sorta like how SVER had the Tamsen....awesome game man....going to jump back on shortly! |

Dust is REAL lolwut? real? @OP no DUST =/= MAG DUST is an evolution of what MAG tried to be + more correction Dust is an evolution of what MAG wouldn't want to be + more. I always thought CCP should get some of the guys from team zipper. They made MAG in 2009, which was awesome for its time, and are familiar with all sorts of issues in big battles over very few server. as far as i know, they only had 3 servers, in asia, europe, and north america with players from all around the world, and they're still up and running.
Only the north American mag server remans |
