I don't.
Personal opinion is that this function should be removed completely.
ps. This is my first multiplayer FPS since 2002 Quakeworld.

Have heard it's good, have heard it's bad, have heard it called easy mode and then again called a hindrance to successful targeting. Personally have never seen (or looked for) the option regarding it so unless it's on by default then I've never used it (and in either case have no context for it).
My conclusion it's a personal preference thing, if you don't like it just ignore it.

I turn it on, I turn it off. Gameplay wise, I think my aim got WORSE with it on, therefore... I think you all get the rest. |

Depends on the weapon. Sometimes with scrambler pistols, shotguns, and submachine gun hip fire it helps in close quarters.
Anything else or for fighting at range turn it off. |

I've turned it on, but I don't think it actually does anything. Aiming feels the same either way. |

Definitelu off if you plan on scoping much at all. I have always taken aim assist off in just about every fps I've ever owned. It can be useful to young boys with needs but it makes for lazy killing at childhood. Best to turn it off and learn how to aim. It will seserve you better in the long run. More precision when you're not fighting against the aim bot.

I agree that the option shouldn't exist. |

I tried to test it out both on and off to notice a difference. Basically, how it tends to work for me is it doesn't actually help you aim any better. The large majority of the time it does nothing at all. However, when shooting at a distance and i hit someone dead on i've noticed it actually sort of locks onto them a little bit. If you hit them dead on you can walk side to side a bit and continue hitting them without manually adjusting your aim back and forth as much as you move. Move too much and it'll break the lock. If you release the trigger, again, it breaks the lock but if using an AR and continuously firing and you place that initial shot well it will lock on to a certain extent. Any time i've felt like i noticed it was only after the very first shot of a burst was well placed. If firing without aiming well and trying to walk the shots onto your target, it doesn't seem to lock on at all. If your target is moving a lot, it doesn't really work either.
When it does work it isn't drastic and usually afterward you think to yourself "that felt like it locked on a little, but i'm not sure".
This is my own personal experience. With it off i didn't get that same feeling, so i think the aim assist is legitimately doing it. I could also be completely crazy and it's a placebo effect, but i 'm pretty sure this is the way it works or at least a situation in which it is most evident.
That said, i really don't find it to be an 'easy mode' in any way. In certain situations it can help, but it can also hinder in others. There have been times when it's kicked in, and i wasn't expecting it while manually adjusting my aim and my over-compensation actually broke the aim assist lock and threw my aim farther off target than it would've been without it on. As with anything, it's a trade off. Learn to use it and it can help. Turn it on thinking it's easy mode and that you don't have to aim well and it'll actually work against you.
I suggest you just test with it on and off. If it helps, use it. If not, don't. It really doesn't matter and i think it's mild enough that it doesn't truly give any noticeable advantage. I don't even care if you use it to shoot me. If you are able to kill me purely due to the aim assist then i deserved it because i was either standing still and/or you got the jump on me with a really well aimed initial shot. In those cases it comes down to my stupidity or your good aim. Both are perfectly fair reasons for me to die. The aim assist factor is negligible. |

If you're using the PS3 pad I don't think it has any effect. Tried it for about an hour, then turned it back off. It might only work with certain controller types. |

Well if the aim snaps to the player you will be missing most of your shots when hes moving. Hit detection still has the 50-300ms latency issue in it. |

Nah noob-assist isn't just lame... But if you know how to fire a projectiles, you would find that you can not lead or do procession aiming if its constantly trying to snap to the character. Sure its cool if you want to go run right at someone, but if you are in a tank and the tank fires projectiles... You want to guesstimate where the vehicle going to run or you will be firing behind them the entire time.
Some of the weapons though that shoot rails, are percise firing and need direct fire. We also have not seen all of the firing mechanics yet. |
