Played a few matches yesterday; couldn't hit anything to save my life. I was all over the place. I've tried adjusting sensitivity, moving closer to the screen... nothing felt right. Heck, I was shooting at stationary targets with my sniper rifle and still couldn't Hit them. I don't know if it was a latency issue, but it was really frustrating l.
I know It's not Call of Duty or Battlefield, but I wish I could at least hit what I was aiming at. Or at the very least actually aim at it. |

I ain't no sniper but from I've read so far is that there are a couple of skills and upgrades that you can learn/buy to improve steadiness and damage for you.
It seems that the game is designed so that you can't take over the game right away with just raw fps skills. I think that's a good thing. |

I've been using crouch.
I turned the sensitivity as low as it goes, and I'm doing a bit better. |

I've had trouble hitting far targets but I think it's because I can shoot farther than my zoom allows me to see. I see the target and get a red reticle but the target is the same size as the reticle so I miss. I really hate when I see the shield flare up but don't do any damage. I think a second zoom level would help a lot. |

Croutching isn't the issue. Its a mix of hit detection and something messed up with the reticule. Sometimes it isn't lined up with the bullet. |

I believe that the weapons have a designated range. Like shotguns, they have limited effective range. I know with the Merc AR doesnt have very good range. It cant compete with a sniper like in other games like Modern Warfare where you can use the FAL as a pseudo-sniper rifle. I may have the reticle right on the center mass and be shooting burst, but i am not hitting because im out of range.
I dont know much about the Sniper Rifles of Dust 514 and how good the range is. Just try to work with different ranges from the enemy and guess-timate the appropriate range of the rifle you are using. Im not sure if im correct but just an idea. |

I hate it when games have bullets that go "poof" after a certain distance. Although at least here it's justified in the setting. Plasma can (probubly) loose EM field integrity and disperse after a certain range. Bullets/shotgun pellets don't do that. |

The hit detection in this game is god awful. Its worse when i put a full clip into someone at close range and dont hit the guy once. the xhair isnt where the hit detection happens half the time. |

The sniper rifles take getting use to, once you do they work fine. I have made 552m shot with dual shock controller.
I heard a dev on a video say range and optimal, this makes me suspect they lifted a EvE mechanic. An optimal range where bullet/charge/beam has full effect, and a fall off range that causes 50% chance of hit at fall off + optimal. |

Using the sniper rifles just takes a bit of getting used to. I couldn't hit anything initially but with practice became much better.
I would strongly recommend crouching and waiting for the initial scope sway to settle (approx 2 seconds after scoping in) before pulling the trigger. Practice on stationary targets initially (i.e. other snipers!) with the standard rifle then move on to the charge variant (much more powerful) when you get good.
Once you get the hang of it it becomes much easier - I've taken out scouts running at full speed on a few occasions and also the jeep gunners once or twice.
When you unlock the sniper profieicieny skills it becomes really fun - less scope sway makes sniping much easier. |

I'm good at sniping...
I don't like how the assault rifles all have that scope view. I would rather some of the assault riffle just have Iron-sights w/out the scope... Sorta like the pistol. The constant sniper scope with all guns is pretty tedious. |

Dust has input lag very much alike to that experienced in BF3. This is probably why the aiming feels nasty to you. If you are using KBM it isn't quite as bad, but certainly still there. |

Aiming with any gun in this game is kind of odd and uncomfortable right now. Hopefully the lag fixes in the next build will make it feel more fluid. |

I have been in several matches. I am starting to hate the swarm missiles. I get a solid lock and half the times the missiles hit the wall next to me or dive into the dirt or guard rail. Most of the time even out in the open only about one of the four missiles hit if the tank is moving. I get a solid red beeping lock on the tank too. Then after that shot misses while trying for the second lock I get blown up. They should work on the swarm missiles tracking. |

Aiming is a bit strange, but i guess it's one of those things you get used to.
I do think, however, that the scope sway on the Sniper Rifles is too high, the AR uses can see you at the same range without the huge sway and 9/10 times if they get the first shot off you're dead due to the strange super accurate ARs.
I think taking the scope off the AR would balance it out pretty well though. |

i think that would balance things out a bit too. no longer the sniping ARs because they can pinpoint their shots. |

Aiming is defo not right.
I find that I'm constantly over compensating.
Example - I have someone in my sights. Pop a few bullets off. They quite rightly, move. I move joystick to direction they're running. Im not catching hm up in my crosshairs. I push a tad harder on joystick. Woomph, I've now shot my crosshairs right past the dude.
It's almost like there's no middle ground on the joystick. I can either move really slowly or really fast.
Best game I ever played that had awesome aiming mechanics was BattleField 2. It just simply worked, and I wished Dust would too.

i have the same problem, i don't want to turn down the sensitivity because then it will cause my turning to slow down.
mouse controls are really the only way to go, just make sure you have the controller nearby if you hop into a turret because mouse controls are god awful. |

If I have to start using a mouse to aim on a PS3 to play a FPS, I really will be thinking that something isn't right. The whole reason I bought a Console was because it neatly fits under my TV. If ever I want to play, I grab the controller, plump my ass on the sofa, and off I go. If I have to add a mouse and flat surface to my playing environment, I'd rather not play.
I love the concept of this game, but CCP seen to be forgetting the fundamentals of console gaming. Or perhaps they are exactly where they want to be and I'm not the kind of customer they're targeting. |

i don't think CCP even knows what they are trying to target.
if it was a CoD style game they are jumping on that horse after it was killed and buried and and now they are digging up the corpse just to beat it again. modern warfare games are losing customers because it was beaten so many times.
futuristic shooters are also a shaky as well. shortly after they are released give 4-6 months and the only people that are playing the game are the few diehards of the franchise. tribes ascend is pretty empty and I'm pretty sure halo 4 will be empty very quickly only being pulled out when friends are over perhaps and that would be it.
the attention span of the modern casual gamer is very short.
and this game is being pulled in way too many direction to really tell what it's going to be. they want it to be balanced like a modern FPS but they want it to have ultra fittings that stomp on everyone like a time beats all game. everyone moves like a modern FPS but there are infinity rockets flying around from vehicles and jeeps like a arena style FPS.
are they wanting to be like halo or are they wanting to be like CoD/BF? |

For me, the issue is the Scope. especially with any variation of Assault Rifle.
something about it just throws me off.
I think it is the fact that it is just a miniscule tiny dot in the middle of the scope that you aim with. in most Shooters, the Reticule is large enough that it covers a decent amount of a target's silhouette, where in Dust. the miniscule little dot barely covers any part of it.
I find myself having to place my reticule in front of my target and trying to aim so that he runs through my reticule as I am firing, rather than actually aiming at the enemy himself.
I'm referring to Assault Rifle while crouched, and shooting on the move, not Sniping. I find hitting people with a Sniper Rifle to be considerably easier than with an automatic weapon. |

Wait til you hit a guy, see his shield flicker signaling you damn hit him, and he takes no damage. That's when it will really **** you off. Especially when you hit him 3 shots in a row, and his shield flickers 3x in a row.
Also, I like how people shoot through the ground, it's amazing to me. I want some of the "magic bullets" but I can't seem to find them anywhere on the market. Can someone tell me where they are? |

This. It drives me insane when you see his shield flicker. Is it that they are out of range? At least that was my first thought it I took out one scout then turned to the next one that was literally right next to him, 3 shots, no damage and he was completely stationary the entire time. |
