Hi! I'm new here and I haven't took my feet to the battleground yet. I have only checked all those things in Merc Quaters (MQ).
I have done ready all three soldier class becouse I would like to try them all while this beta so I would know what path I take when this game is launched.
My priorities with this beta is beside of betatesting find out game mechanics and get familiar to these beta maps/gamemodes.
I have noticed that there is alot of skill, perks etc. to chose for so here I need some help.
Where I should invest first so I could be effective for my side and I don't die as soon as I go to the battlefield.
Should I take part with reacon/sniper first and try to check things first with that or should I take assualt and take part to the front line when I can't check surraundings so good as with sniper, or should I chose that antivehicle lad instead?
Thanks for advance and sorry if this was stupid topic.
(Sorry about my english it's not my mothertongue.) |

I have only played for a day or two, but it seems like snipers are the easiest class to play when starting, unless you get stuck on base **** maps. Assault is not bad either. I would stay away from the medic because no one gives you enough time to revive them. The anti-armor guy is the hardest to use, since your secondary weapon will be a choice of 3 short range weapons. |

I've been on the beta since May and i haven't found my style yet.
I started with a heavy because of the armour but am now a logistic medic. It really is up to you.
If you like to run around go for assault. If you like to sit and wait go for scout.
There are so many options, you can use a scout suit with a shotgun or a heavy with an assault rifle.
I use a logistic with medic nanohive, repair gun, and nanite injector with an assault rifle.
This gives me the perfect balance. I can drop a nanohive which I can use to heal myself and team, along with ammo, save dead players and repair armour on the move. All this whilst still being able to kill the enemy.
If you use a heavy with an assault rifle at first. You can take a few more hits before you die. This will let you build up your skill points to buy different suits.
This is an extremely good game, which you have to think about a lot. Go to the skills page and read about all the skills available before you buy them and visit the shop aswell.
Hope this helps a bit |

You dont have to use the anti armour, you can switch it out for an assault rifle whilst keeping the armour. The Logistic suit isn't just about reviving, you get points for people using your resupply etc |

according to a current estimate, capping out all skills passively should take around 7 years apparently
the nice thing is, that each toon currently gets passive Skill Points, so i'd suggest playing which ever one you feel like at that point in time.
about me first: I'm not leetsauce :P I leave that to those that are, i generally play support, with cover fire, logisitics or transport/pilot
my first toon: the scout, he 's had a big break so i've blown all his accrued SP on skilling into Drop ships, his a decent sniper, and in previous build he was a main.
second toon: assault suit, totally built around Assault Rifles, only just now moving away from weapons skills and into defensive Skills.
Third toon: Heavy suit, started as a foray into Anti-vehicle, but got very messy when became a main-primary weapon is usually a Sub-machine Gun (side arm slot). Currently uses Mass Drivers (slightly bugged) with assault and logi suits, Heavy Machine Gun with damage mods in the high slots-type 2 heavy suit for the shields, and the same suit again but with forge guns for taking out vehicles (not so great with the -25% damage temp nerf)
Starting out, i'd say stick to skilling up a weapon of choice, don't worry about survival too much, people have toons with 10 million SP now, so you'll want to just be able to spit bits of damage then get under cover, and just work with a team as much as you can. Don't be afraid to branch out though, at this point there will be a skill wipe with the next build, so getting to know how weapons handle now will save you time later. This is howmy heavy ended up with skills in so many different weapons... sure she doesnt hit very hard, but I know how i want to play her now, and after the wipe, she won't be as messy!
Read the descriptions of the skills available to you, then hit R2 and check out the complete skills list, and read as much as you can handle of those as well. Pay attention to Pre-requisites, both for skills and for gear, you'll need to know what path to take to get to where you want to go.
Power Grid(PG) and CPU are important later on when you'll find alot of the weapons and some other gears start chewing up these resources. There are skills to reduce PG/CPU needs for gear and there are skills to increase PG/CPU capacity, but once again you shouldn't need to worry about them until you start getting into advanced gear.
Militia gear can be bought in the market, in the Militia section. Don't bother buying more then one of each until next patch, when militia gear "may" become limited run/non permanent. Stocking up 1 of each militia gear after your first or second match will make generating of fiddling around with different fittings alot easier. Militia gear is fairly much the same as Type1/standard/skill level 1 gear, expect that it uses a fraction more PG/CPU. As you start fiddling with fittings you might find you'll need to upgrade some modules out of militia gear to free up PG/CPU.
Currently there is a free Militia Jeep. You can modify its fittings in the Vehicle Fittings ui. I'd suggest replacing its blaster with a Small Militia Missile turret, the splash damage is more useful at this point.
If you want to get into vehicles, get used to spending the first few hundred thousand SP on them before you get anything really sexy. Vehicles cost a bit more then running infantry fits, but at higher tiers are very strong, so if you're training into them run militia infantry gear as much as you can, it will make things easier later on.

Personally I love to run and gun, but have specialised in the scout dropsuit. I love the SMG and have investing in reducing my signature (how much I show up on the map) and increased the enemy visibility as well.
Flanking is key - if you see someone close on the map, head around the back of them to get a head start in the duel
Good luck! |

Thank you all for those good and helpfull posts!
So they wipe our skills etc time to time, and I don't have to live with my mistakes forever (till the beta ends)?
Even I have played rpg/mmorpg games and I have played a lot of shooters aswell and there is coming more and more rpg elements to the shootergames I haven't seen anything like this yet. I don't say that it's bad thing. I'm just saying that it's confusing me at the moment. There is so much where to choose for. Normally in shooters you just go to play and unlock new things one by one and now there is so much.
Have I understood this right, that I can drive/fly vehicles and use all weapons in that vehicle even if I don't spend anything to those skills. I can play this game like rpg games, where I chooce army career for my character and if I want to be a good pilot or tank driver or what ever, I just start to spend those skills what helps me that direction? Is it waste to try make soldier who is good with vehicles and without vehicles if needed?
If I like to be a driver or pilot, how hard is to get the vehicle? Are there as many vehicle thieves as it is in Battlefield serie?
I'm intrested about that medic thing also. I heal/revive people while I play medic or I resupply while I play support in BF, but that is easy in Bf, how that works in DUST 514?
I hope that I don't dishonour my self and my side in the battlefield. =) |

Medic is hard in Dust because the system was newly implemented and is buggy and people don't usually wait. The maps are huge, and revive timer is about 30 s. Also, a lot of people have died as soon as they were revived and therefore don't trust it as whole lot.
Try looking in the Militia section of the Market at the top. It has all the things to get you started, and vehicles that you don't need skills for. Once you find a playstyle you enjoy, try skilling up in it.
, no it's not a waste to skill into vehicles and infantry. It takes longer, and requires dedication, but soon the big bucks start rolling in. |

This is backwards The scout has by far the highest mobility, so he should be the one moving around all the time.
Scout don't have to be snipers, despite the starter fit. In fact, other suit types are probably better unless you're going to play a highly mobile sniper that stays with the squad and provides long-range support.
I play scout as an actual scout--doing recon, getting behind enemy lines, hacking objectives, hit and run attacks, flanking, etc.
Scouts allow you to be sneaky and come from where people don't expect you. |

I started as Assault, build my way to Logistic so that I can use nanohives, uplinks, and nanoinjectors. I only focus on one certain weaponry upgrades like the assault rifle. I make sure they get the boost damage they get so I can get the best of it. Then the dropships and tanks showing up, I start building for foreguns and grenades. I have a level 5 prototype forgegun with level 3 profiency, and a level 5 weaponry.
Some players, they build there way on armory and shield, which it helps them a lot to survive with just basic militia.
To make your life easier, just buy the merc pack which it includes 30 day 50% SP boost. |

The selling point for me was that everyone can change their class as they see fit. You may play a heavy, but run around with SMGs because you like how they handle or heck, just because they look cool to you. When I play games like BF3, I know when i see an engineer there's only going to be a small variety of advantages or disadvantages, which is great for a game like BF3. Dust 514 is what an MMO-FPS needs to be, and even in it's Closed Beta stage delivers a wholesome package that lets you put up with the frustrating bugs.
I use an assault drop suit, but I'm a jack of all trades at the moment. I like driving, but hate the obviously over powered nature of tanks so I rock light vehicles, that has taken away from my ability to wield a better assault riffle, but allows me to zoom into a battle right off rip. I usually drive around to find a gunner, and the two of us start taking early points. The point is, you choose how to play.
There's a lot of game time spent viewing the market and skills, just have fun with it. Play how you want, not how other people want you to. |
