Perhaps this can be added to the que of questions for IRC...
A while back I asked about incorporating acoustic locators in addition to the hit indicators we have now. Never got a response, but there were a number of us that thought it'd be a good idea. In most games, aside from red hit indicators that tell you what direction you're getting shot from, there are "acoustic" indicators (usually yellow or white) that tell you what direction nearby enemy fire is coming from. This allows you to react to someone firing at you, even though they may be missing, instead of maybe being unaware until you're half dead.
As it stands now, if someone is firing at you, especially in an area where there is some action, you don't even know about it. Especially if their rounds are missing, and landing out of your line of sight.
I think this is something that can be added to the gameplay. Perhaps even including it into the skill mechanics. Perhaps with no skills invested, you only detect shots missing by like 5m or less. Higher skills, allowing you to detect shots from further out.
I'd like to get some Dev feedback, and even feed back on this post, from members, if they agree or disagree with including this game mechanic. |

I hear bullets whizzing by me or popping into the ground around me when fire is incoming. And then, like the pain you would feel, the red hit indicator with the direction it came from tells me which way NOT to run! If you were in a real fire fight and bullets are whizzing by you, you don't necessarily know from where. Just my 0.02ISK ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Props to whoever said this first - I saw it on someone else's post but I'm totally ganking it
I can respect your opinion. However, I have to say you def would hear and make out what general direction fire was coming from. (especially with all the futuristic sensors we have in our suits) |

Grit Breather wrote:Visual acoustic indicators? You've got to be kidding. Dust already supports full surround sound and with the proper setup you can hear bullets flying around you and someone sneaking up behind you. Get a proper audio setup and stop asking for really silly things.
What next? Smell indicators so you know where a corpse is rotting?
Clearly you don't understand. The indicators would be the exact same as the directional hit indicators when you get shot. Only difference is that they would be a different color. Perhaps yellow or white, instead of red.
I've got a 5.1 sound system, so trust me, I can hear everything. That still doesn't tell you when someone is firing at you. All you hear is shots being fired from a general direction...that doesn't tell you if it's friendly fire or enemy fire, etc.
You calling this a silly thing CLEARLY shows your lack of experience playing FPS games.... as most games have this functionality. And tbh, it would be beneficial for those with only 2.1, or even just their tv for sound. |
