I've noticed a distinct lack of players who have been successful with AV weighing in on the AV vs. vehicle conversation since the Precursor build.
As someone who has specced into AV and not had much success against any but the weakest tanks (LAVs are, of course, another story), I would like to hear from the successful AV specialists out there. How have you maximized your effectiveness in this build? What kind of fits do you use? What are the best tactics? Do you always squad up before joining a battle, or can you be effective solo?
Please do not post complaints that tanks are OP. Please do not post complaints about the people who complain that tanks are OP. Please do not post if you are a tank driver talking about tactics other people should use, unless you have actually played an AV and used those tactics and been successful during this build. Please do not post that I should just buy a tank.
I would like to have a constructive thread that isn't about nerfing or buffing, but about how to get the most out of the current setup. I can't seem to find anything of that nature on the forums since the Precursor release. |

This is interesting, I've been using heavy suits almost exclusively but I have been noticing it's hard to lock, launch, and cover at the speed of a heavy (since you have to have a visual to lock). Since you don't last long against direct tank fire anyway, and you can't carry a nanohive to restock yourself, it may work better with a lighter suit. Obviously not an option for forge guns, though.

So if I can't find a squad, or if I only want to play a couple of matches, I should fall back on a different role and only AV if people are spamming the LAVs?

This makes me realize I've been too impatient. It doesn't matter if it takes you an extra minute to get a really advantageous position, if it really gives you an advantage. |

Okay, scout is so much better than heavy for swarm launchers. Where I could get off 2-3 shots with a heavy, I'm now running out of ammo with my scout. Mobility is so much better than armor.
However, swarms are still pretty useless against tanks unless you've got another tank helping. I did manage to scratch a Gunnlogi's armor with my proto swarms, but I ran out of ammo. And that was just a Gunnlogi.
Forge guns really need their range back, too. They need to reach at least as far as a tank's turret. Why did that get nerfed in the first place? |
