They are still kind of broken, but fit one on to a scout with a nanohive and you get some seriously confused enemies trying to fight you. It isn't used much so no one knows how to fight you. It is also the natural counter to a shotgun scout. |

The mass driver is amazing...short, mid, and long range weapon. One of the few (if not the only) weapon that has an arc to its fire pattern. Takes a bit of skill, guess work, and a little luck to effectively use it. All in all, great AoE weapon for damaging groups or squads that are traveling in a pack.
Operation increases damage, Proficiency increases splash radius. Hitting people behind cover or around corners is great...also a great deterant to snipers, especially when a shell explodes in front or near them. A round to the face will one-shot just about any fit (including heavies depending on their shield/armor). |

This is good advice. You really need to skill them up and learn how to properly use them, as there is a knack to using them effectively. My favorite is to hit someone head-on when they are charging me, usually resulting in a OHK, but it took time to get the feel for that tactic.
When I use it, I pair it with a Submachine gun for CQC. |

Dis they fix the mass driver? I liked it in the E3 build but you had about a 50/50 chance that the grenade wouldn't go off. |

Drake, it is still pretty sketchy trying to get the rounds to explode, but by, when they do...
I use a mass driver exclusively on my logi builds. I am getting better at it.
Tips: you only have four shots before a reload, use them wisely. Remember, you can two shot most suits with splash and one shot most with a direct hit
Tip: always always hold the high ground. I get the sense that the round going off or not has something to do with the angle at impact. A more perpendicular shot tends to explode whereas a shot that hits a surface with an oblique or lesser angle may not
Holding the hi ground and firing down at your target seems to help
I will often jump onto those concrete footers under the roofed structures around 'C' & 'D' on plateaus in order to shoot at someone within close range.
Train light weapon rapid reload, capacity and sharpshooter ( my order) to enhance you capabilities.
Tips: being in the splash radius of a mass driver round when it goes off is Very distracting (& potentially lethal). Lots of controller shake, screen blur and motion. It is a terrific fire suppression weapon
When your squad mates start exchanging fire with the enemy a round or two close to the reds' position can screw up their aim and really break their focus.
The mass driver, like the logistics role, is best employed as a supportive combined arms system

I also use the Mass Driver exclusively with my Logi Suit...helps to clear the area for a revive and the stun effect from a shell does wonders to make Reds scatter.
4 shots before reload CAN be a hinderance. Reload whenever possible, even if its after a single shot thats fired. Those few seconds and that extra shot can be the difference between a kill/assist or your own death.
In terms of support, it does wonders to help/save your team. That said, don't wonder far from your team very often (esp if you're a LogiBro) As good as the mass driver is, in a 1v1 situation with someone strafing back and forth you may find yourself needing the revive instead of earning a kill. |

The low damage per clip of the weapon + constant need of reloading + relative difficulty to use + high weaponry level prerequisite = not really worth it in my opinion. Last build I used the Mass Driver a lot (even prototype), and found that the assault rifle is just overall more useful (more damage per magazine, less reloading, and just easier to use). In my opinion, Mass Drivers should have 6 round clips, and the assault variant should have 7 or 8 rounds.
I wanted to like the Mass Driver since I'm a fan of weapons that aren't generic boring FPS copouts (assault rifles, SMGs, sniper rifles, etc), but guess I'll just have to wait for the laser rifle (which I'm expecting to break my heart and crush my hope). |
