I have tried the beta for the first time yesterday, and something struck me rather hard. And i dont mean that in a good way.
What is with the constant player arrows telling you where all your enemies are all the time? Ikeep getting sniped from ridiculous places and i assume that is because thesnipers can just follow my player arrow when i'm behind something and just wait for me to pop out
Is there no stealth element in this game? |

There are also skills like dropsuit command which lower you visibility. |

I need further clarification on how these arrows work. From my POv, i saw enemy red arrows everywhere, even through mountanous terrain and everything. I actually have trouble spotting the actual players because the arrows are so bright and present. They feel totally out of place. |

Exactly, Dropsuit command will lower your radar/scanner visibility to the enemy. |

If anyone on the enemy team can see you, you will appear on everyone of their screens as a red triangle (threat) marker, if you are not visible to anyone for a few seconds your red triangle dissapears. training dropsuit command will reduce the amount of time your red triangle appears once you are hidden.
vice versa anyone on your team who can see an enemy it will appear as a red triangle (threat) marker on your HUD, however this is not everyone on the other team only those who people can see, someone sneaking up behind you, visible to no one, will not appear and consequently will get the drop on you.

This....I thought I was the only one who thought this. I think they need to move the players name higher if they're going to included HP info (which I'm also not a fan of), or they need to change the color scheme of either the opposing team or the color of your recitule when its on an opponent. |

I see, thanks! And are the red arrows above players's heads also a direct reponse of this? Or are those above-head arrows constantly visible? I find myself chasing those red arrows visible above enemy heads more than trying to actually spot them |

Obviously because I'm a sniper I seem to be only one in this thread who has noticed that the brighter the arrow the closer the enemy is in relation to you which obviously also tells me who is sitting on a hill and who is coming closer of the two targets when I start zooming in. Though obviously sniper on the hill dies first and the runner up dies if he still is running in the open once the sniper on hill bites it. |

The "red triangles" he is speaking of are the "red arrows" you are talking about. Once you get used to how the system works you can start incorporating it into your play strategy. For example, as a scout, I often use my low signature radius to my (and my team's) advantage by intentionally "getting an eyeball" on groups of enemy positions and then waiting for backup to arrive, knowing I've added their "red arrows" to my team's HUD. Or if I hear an enemy tank nearby but it's not marked on my HUD and I don't have my AV fitting I'll sneakily peak out and eyeball it just so the team knows where it's at. |

You can also see people through the scope that do not show on the radar as a blip. This is just a matter of scanning and predicting where targets are coming from/going to. Your question does make me wonder if once I have spotted someone on the other side of the map through the scope, does that target now show for everyone, or is it a scan range of the dropsuit alone? From the comments, it would seem yes, but I've scoped in on people that didn't have an arrow. I'll be paying attention to that mechanic over the next few matches.. maybe you have to highlight a healthbar for them to show on the overview?

I feel the game is far too liberal with this feature. It seems like over 90% of the time your just looking for arrows to kill. Considering the size of the maps, there is really no part of the map that is not on someone's screen. The game should only tag enemies if you scope on them, or when your cross-hairs turn orange. Why should you spot everything that's on your screen? When your driving, do you know the info on every car around you, or just the one your focusing on?
This feature is a deal breaker for me. It dumbs down the game far too much for me to get any challenge or enjoyment out of it. This is what I consider the difference between kid shooters and adult shooters; the game shouldn't constantly tell me what to do, I should have to figure it out myself. |

game is still in beta:
EWAR and ECM are yet to come
Electronic warfare stuff like setting up scanners so that people that get within range show up even if no one on your team can see them physically. Or land mines that "webify" you, slowing you down, and others that suck the energy from your suit, possibly making it so you cant fire a weapon and repair systems no longer function.
ECM Electronic Counter Measures This stuff includes hardening your suit or vehicle to all of the above, so that ewar is less effective.
I'm sure I have gotten it skewed, but its been awhile since i played EVE, and the implimentation of EWAR and ECM in DUST will be different to EVE a bit i think.
Sig. Rad.
not only how long the arrow over your head is visible after disappearing from enemy view, but also how close they have to be to get it to appear over your head. This is why snipers train Drop Suit Command, reducing Sig. Rad. makes it harder for others to spot you, particularly enemy snipers looking for red arrows.
Using shield boosters and other electronics will increase your Sig. Rad. Which isnt to say you shouldn't use them, and no one is entirely sure that this element of Signature has even been introduced to DUST. |
