...or Make-My-Futuristic-Aircraft-More-Realistic
Aline the Dropships more with aviation mechanics. The following doesnGÇÖt have to be a forced change on all players but should at least be considered as an optional control set-up. Right now the layout while logical from a ground up approach doesn't fit with actual avaition. This could end up being the end of allot of bad press about how bizarre and unnatural flight is in Dust 514.
Right Joy Stick as a Flight Stick (Keep) Up/down as the Pitch (forward and backward leaning). (Change) Left/Right Roll (rotation around the aircraft cylinder). Notes: Dropships should be able to bank like airplanes using the fight stick. Currently IGÇÖve been using the left stick with the roll function mostly to regain control, which is wrong on so many levels.
Left Joy Stick as a Throttle with vector control (Change) Down Stick: Engines vectoring down with variable thrust (Change) Up Stick: Engines vectoring horizontal with variable thrust
Add flight petals (Change) L2/R2 for yaw (horizontal rotation). Currently it is the right joy stick. Notes: Yaw should only be important when hovering to bringing weapons to bear and/or check the surroundings. For regular flight it something to enhance maneuvers not actually be the primary means to achieve it.
Make the anti-gravity system simple (Change) L1 AG-drop (Change) R1 AG-lift Notes-Tech: Get away from trying to use thrusters as primary lift. It only really works for a very few fighter jets and even then in a secured area when taking off or landing. Only in movies those jets actually hover and shoot. Notes-Gameplay: The dropship mass is small, the planet mass large. Treat the elevation based on relative position to sea-level where the lift and drop is s set number being moved on that scale with R1/L1
User Activated Modules on the Direction Pad (Change) Direction Pad Up/down to cycle through such modules (Change) Direction Pad Right to activate/deactivate (Keep) Direction Pad Left for the yet implemented Push-To-Talk feature.
Adding Airbrakes through Flaps or retro-thrusters. Either through clicking on the Left Joy Stick or dual pressing L2/R2.
Other Suggestions (only one of them is my idea while the others are shamelessly re-posted)
- Add virtual training because we bleed for our ISK and massive payouts for DS flight training/practice is just dumb. Also goofing off in the sky is rather rude to the people actually trying to achieve the mission.
- Inflicted armor damage on the dropship for hard impacts with ground and buildings. If the controls are improved weGÇÖll probably see an increased in death-from-above tactic. People may think twice if it costs them between %20 and %60 of their armor. Major irony here since squishing kills are the primary means to gain additional skill points for pilots.
- Flight Instrumentation Overlay.
- Improve battle Contribution metrics/calculations for the pilot. ItGÇÖs been mentioned for other vehicles too.
Technical/Bug Issues:
- Auto-suicide without any warnings or notifications several minutes prior to a game drop. Dropship returned/refunded to fittings after game even though it clearly crashed.
- Variable exaggerated maneuvers. On some days every action and reaction seemed to generate wild maneuvers. The majority of time is then spent trying to get things under control. Wether this is lag, inertial equation error, map issue, or the nano-fiber is bugged I have no clue.
- Left Joy Stick inverted mid flight during a game on Sept 4th.
- Small Militia Rail failed to hit even stationary targets. Dropship was landed, the target was in moderate to short range for a rail weapon. Shots charged, fired, no hit results for three plus shots.

My suggestions are set to bring them inline with actual flight controls. The current are somewhat arbitrary through the development process. If that is catering then so be it.
Aside I don't know why some people are so hostile to even a third control pad optional layout. It's just flabbergasting as if someone having another choice is somehow a personal insult to them. Since when was choice bad? |

They're fine the way they are, and what you propose would make them less realistic and less maneuverable. All flight sticks on airplanes and helicopters use pitch/roll and separate out yaw. All hectoliters and VTOLs can effect movement or use that as a primary means to generate motion through the flight stick. Don't even get me started on inability to control thrust except for bursts. When one of those flying bricks turned sideways a crash would ensue, there is not lift or other aerodynamic factor to prevent it. Even leveled out a door gunner firing a weapon would cause them to tip/spinning and a crash.
I get this feeling you're taking this as a debate rather than a discussion. You are entitled to say that everything is fine as is. Just as I am to say Dropships are not OK. Both of those are opinions not facts.
The only remotely factual part of your statement is the change might make DS less maneuverable. With lots of momentum they are indeed very "agile". So bringing them inline with reality could indeed reduce that. My gut tells me that may be a valid point, maybe the Devs should beta test that. Bringing DS in more reality based aviation is the point. If you like the moon-bounce physics then just admit it, there is nothing wrong with that. Heck keeping the physics side as is may be good simply because the developers don't have the time to do a proper job of it or resources are too tight.
Don't go around contradicting someone's statement in that manner because seeing change concerns you. |
