what are some thoughts on this from players who've tried one or the other..
Just kind of 'shopping' on were to spend my skill points. sniping sux.. unless you are a battle/counter sniper which I know of about 2 good ones.. all noobs are going sniper.. it just makes you part of their "camp", pun intended.. go assault.. it's more manly, you won't regret it. also the tactical rifle if you can use it well makes you look like a pro and will impress those around you.. i dont recommend 3 round burst until they fix the F'ing frame rate freezes.. which there are many of right now with all the roleplayers chasing their million sp carrot.. assault bro, it's the all around thing that can get you more SP than some lame sniping from the mountains will and you'll feel like a chump crouching there when someone flanks you or drops a bunch of lasers from space on your head. i always target snipers with those. It's all in the way you play, I have sniped you a few times (along with countless other poor souls as they race across a battlefield strafing and jumping for their lives) but I am not afraid to go and get into the gritty bloodbath with an AR either, I love to change it up when the battle requires. you're actually one of the only snipers i respect because you were down there in the nit and grit with us defending some supply depot with us on the venuslike planet with lightning and jagged rocks.. the rest of these noobs running for the nearest mountain top can go2hell Ah you remember! That was a good battle hehe iirc correct you were switching back and forth from the supply depot from counter sniper to AR at the appropriate moment which i highly applauded

I briefly tried sniping recently. Actually pretty fun, got some nice headshots on people. As always though I think assault is the best way to go, more versatile, can get in the objective and do damage where it counts. Only thing that I think snipers are really good for are counter sniping, otherwise I think assault is more useful in every possible way.
If I really picked up sniping I would still play assault the majority of the time and only switch to sniper when there's an enemy sniper that's actually making a difference. The most effective sniping I've seen was people sniping from up top on the towers last build looking over A/B, luckily for me you can strafe while hacking though :)
Overall sniping in this game seemed easier than the others I've played, don't have to lead your target really, just shoot while the dot is red and you've got a hit. Also saw some snipers blowing up vehicles lol. |

Personally I use heavies for sniping since you don't move while your aiming and you are usually killed by other snipers, so other snipers can't kill you in one hit if your in your heavy suit.
I prefer using assault Rifles on scout due to increased turning speed and being able to duck behind cover, or just plain run away. Plus the scout tech 2 suit has 2 utility slots meaning you can heal your buddies with an armor repair nanohive, and revive them if they go down to a sniper far away or something lame.
On top of this, the best is when you use the depot to change to a shotgun build when they get close. muhaha |

I really like the thought of heavy sniping.
Lol since I've started this thread I decided to go heavy all the way so this may work out with T2 heavy armor :) |

TseihShe wrote:Personally i like to grab the scout-sniper dropsuit and bolt around the sides of the battles, get to the objectives behind enemy lines.. means an additional drop-point for us, and we can come in from 2 angles if so desired.
also, sneaking around the back and taking turret emplacements near the enemy MCC means you can turn around and start firing at it yourself too. might be less SP, but it can sometimes be the small things that help.
This is pretty much how I play i'm not a very good FPS guy so I help my team bye throwing down spawn points, hacking objectives, gunning in tanks and ships and counter sniping. I have more FUN doing this then anything. |

I have a tactical AR assault fit that I use as anti-sniper
If I feel like the match has a lot of snipers active I will spawn this fit and recon the sniper hideouts. If I can flank or spot them from a distance I like to approach to 150-200m and strike them down. I say that as though I am effective. But even though this approach is teaching me better aim and better battlefield awareness, it is also showing me a lot about how range, suit and weapon systems interact
Anti sniper this way feels like a fast rail or projectile cruiser in eve. Sniper is like a long range talos. Scout shotgun is like a taranis.
I love doing eve:dust analogy |
